Job Description

The NBC News Group Digital team is seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Manager on the Apps Platform & Video team who will work with our team of talented engineers across four Mobile Apps teams to design and build the next generation of NBC News' and CNBC's flagship applications.

About the team

The Apps Platform team consists of Android, iOS, Lightning and Roku developers that focus on these areas of scope: Mobile Platform, Video, OTT Platform and Developer Experience. This team partners with the Android and iOS experience teams to improve developer efficiency and feature velocity. This team also iterates on tools, workflows, and build processes, and focuses on building a scalable and reliable app architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team responsible for the execution and delivery of initiatives on our mobile and OTT engineering roadmap
  • Manage a team of 5 to 7 mobile and OTT engineers (full-time and contractors), fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and professional development
  • Champion best practices in mobile development and stay up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies
  • Support video playback of livestream, video on-demand, and authenticated video across mobile, OTT and connected TV clients
  • Conduct regular 1:1s and performance reviews with direct reports


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in native mobile app development (iOS and/or Android)
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role as an Engineering Lead or an Engineering Manager
  • Enthusiasm for building robust and efficient mobile platforms for other developers
  • Strong technical skills in mobile app development (Swift/Objective-C or Kotlin/Java) and modern mobile development build tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Nice to have but not required:

  • Experience using GraphQL
  • Experience building and running video products at enterprise scale

Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
