Description
We are looking for an experienced Linux Administrator to join our team in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This Contract-to-Permanent position offers the opportunity to contribute to the development and maintenance of Linux-based systems designed to support research computing environments. The role requires knowledge in Linux systems, virtualization, storage solutions, and security protocols to ensure scalable and efficient systems.
Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and optimize Linux-based systems tailored to meet research computing requirements.
Evaluate existing environments to identify needs and propose solutions for system upgrades and configurations.
Architect virtualization and storage solutions to support virtual machines and ensure redundancy.
Collaborate with vendors and procurement teams to acquire necessary hardware and software.
Plan and implement network and security solutions for both physical and virtual servers across multiple locations.
Build, maintain, troubleshoot, and migrate Linux virtual machines designed for database support.
Assess and select the most suitable virtualization technologies based on research and security needs.
Facilitate the migration of systems from existing data centers to newly designed environments.
Provide ongoing support and ensure system reliability for research-specific computing infrastructures.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in Linux system administration.
Proficiency in Red Hat Linux (RHEL) and related distributions.
Strong knowledge of server virtualization technologies like VMware and KVM.
Experience with hypervisors and managing virtualized environments.
Familiarity with Oracle databases and their integration with Linux systems.
Solid understanding of storage architecture and redundancy mechanisms.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in Linux-based systems.
Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
