Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Statutory Senior Accountant to lead key financial reporting and compliance functions. This role is responsible for preparing and reviewing quarterly and annual statutory financial statements, Medical Loss Ratio filings, and monthly journal entries, while ensuring adherence to regulatory standards. The position involves collaborating across departments, guiding process improvements, mentoring team members, and supporting audits and policy development. Ideal candidates will have a strong foundation in statutory accounting, excellent analytical and communication skills, and the ability to drive operational excellence within a fast-paced, compliance-focused environment.
Duties:

Research topics and share with the Statutory Accounting team, providing guidance and support to team members.

Responsible for the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial statements and reports in compliance with statutory requirements.

Responsible for the preparation and review of annual Medical Loss Ratio filings occurring throughout the year

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.

Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

Monitor and analyze financial data to identify trends and provide insights to senior management.

Coordinate with external auditors during the audit process and address any audit findings.

Stay updated with changes in accounting standards and regulations, and ensure their implementation within the team.

Perform and review preparation of monthly journal entries and reporting functions for month close.

Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.

Oversee and review State Premium Stop-Loss recovery billing and reconciling.

Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
Mandatory Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.

6+ years of accounting experience

4+ years of experience in statutory accounting, financial reporting, and compliance.

Prior experience working with insurance data.

Strong knowledge of accounting principles, standards.

Proficient in using accounting software and MS Office applications.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Self-starter with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Excellent current technical skills (MS Office applications such as Excel).
Desirable Qualifications:

CPA or equivalent professional certification is preferred.

Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory role is desirable.

Workday experience would be beneficial.
