Job Title: Unix Administrator
Location: Remote Canada

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Unix Administrator to join our remote team in Canada. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Solaris and Linux system administration, along with experience in managing NetApp NAS storage. This role involves daily system operations, scripting, performance monitoring, and coordination with infrastructure teams to ensure system reliability and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform day-to-day system administration on Solaris and Linux servers.
  • Develop and maintain Unix/Linux shell scripts (e.g., Bash, KornShell) for task automation and system monitoring.
  • Manage NetApp NAS volumes and file services including provisioning, maintenance, and issue resolution.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and resource utilization proactively.
  • Collaborate with storage and infrastructure teams to manage data storage, backups, and recovery procedures.
  • Apply OS patches and updates in line with organizational security and compliance standards.
  • Participate in incident response, perform root cause analysis, and resolve system or storage-related issues.
  • Maintain clear and accurate documentation of configurations, procedures, and system changes.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Solaris and Linux system administration.
  • Proficiency in Unix/Linux shell scripting, particularly Bash or KornShell.
  • Solid experience with NetApp file services and NAS volume management.
  • Familiarity with storage protocols such as NFS, CIFS, and iSCSI.
  • Good understanding of system security, performance tuning, and backup strategies.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a distributed team.
