The Opportunity


A leading AI startup working in the defense sector is seeking a highly experienced and security-cleared Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to lead and mature its cybersecurity strategy across a complex, high-assurance environment. This executive-level position plays a critical role in safeguarding the organization's information assets, infrastructure, and services from evolving cyber threats.


As a senior member of the leadership team, the CISO will work across departments, interface with external stakeholders, and set strategic direction on all aspects of cybersecurity, risk management, and compliance.



Key Responsibilities



  • Leads the development and execution of the organization's enterprise-wide information security and risk management program.

  • Ensures compliance with US government cybersecurity regulations and industry requirements.

  • Manages cyber risk assessments, threat intelligence, incident response, and security operations.

  • Acts as the primary liaison for all cybersecurity matters with internal teams and external government or intelligence partners.

  • Builds and leads a high-performing cybersecurity team, promoting a proactive and resilient security culture.



Required Experience & Skills



  • Active US Security Clearance - [e.g., Top Secret or higher].

  • Extensive experience as a CISO or in a senior cybersecurity leadership role within a high-assurance or government-regulated environment.

  • In-depth knowledge of enterprise IT, network security, cloud platforms, and secure system architecture.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management capabilities.

  • Experience within sectors involving classified systems or critical national infrastructure is highly desirable.
