Summary of the Systems Operations Group Electrical Side
The Systems Operations Electrical group plays a critical role in managing the real-time operations of CenterPoint Energy's electric grid. This includes overseeing power distribution, ensuring system reliability, and responding to outages or abnormal conditions across the network.
Core Responsibilities Likely Include:
Grid Monitoring and Control: Using systems like SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) to monitor electrical loads, voltages, and switching operations in real time.
Outage Management: Responding to and coordinating restoration during power outages using tools like OMS (Outage Management Systems).
Switching Operations: Planning and executing switching instructions to maintain safety during maintenance, upgrades, or emergency situations.
Load Balancing and Reliability: Ensuring the continuous and efficient flow of electricity across the grid while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards (such as NERC).
Crew Coordination: Directing or working closely with field crews to resolve faults and restore service.
System Planning Support: Providing operational input for projects like new substation integration, feeder upgrades, or system expansions.
Shift Work and Modified Dupont Schedule:
Because electric system operations run 24/7, teams like this often work on a rotating shift schedule. The Modified Dupont Schedule refers to a structured rotation of 12-hour shifts, providing balanced coverage while giving employees time off at regular intervals.
