What you'll do...

This Technology Manager role will be responsible for leading three of the development squads comprising the Work Center application. Delivering on initiatives to provide world class application experiences in the tax office. This manager will help to deliver thoughtful client experiences from the perspective of a tax professional. This role requires strong leadership, project management, the ability to communicate and coordinate work across multiple teams, and the ability to make decisions with confidence and speed.

The Technology Manager for the Work Center applications will lead a high-performing engineering team responsible for the development, support, and modernization of one of H&R Block's core tax office platforms. This role drives technology delivery excellence, fosters an inclusive and collaborative culture, and ensure the reliability and scalability of applications that enable H&R Block associates to serve clients efficiently.

The ideal candidate is an experienced engineering leader who excels at developing people, optimizing delivery processes, and partnering cross-functionally to deliver high quality, resilient software solutions.

Day to day you'll...
  • Lead and develop a team of software engineers and technical leads supporting the Work Center platform and related internal tools.
  • Partner with Product Management, Architecture, and Business Operations to define priorities, scope, and strategic direction for platform development.
  • Drive continuous improvement in software delivery velocity, quality, and reliability through agile practices, automation, and engineering excellence.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and psychological safety within the engineering team.
  • Manage application lifecycle health, ensuring proactive monitoring, security compliance, and maintainability.
  • Oversee vendor and partner relationships as needed to support system integrations and service delivery.
  • Collaborate with peer managers and directors across the organization to align technology strategies and resource planning.
  • Coach engineers and leads through career development plans, technical mentorship, and performance feedback.

What you'll bring to the team...

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience.

Work Experience:
  • 8 years minimum related work experience

  • Experience leading teams responsible for platforms with complex integrations and high standards of reliability.
  • Hands on experience driving DevOps maturity - CI/CD Automation, Observability, and Proactive Production Health practices.
  • Demonstrated success developing and mentoring future leaders within engineering teams.

Pay Range Information

The pay range for this position is listed below. Local minimum wage laws apply. This information is posted pursuant to local requirements to provide applicants with information about what they might be eligible to receive. Individual pay decisions will depend on job-related factors such as experience, education, skill, performance, and geographic location where work will be performed. Successful candidates may be able to participate in one or more incentive compensation or short-term incentive plans, which could generate additional earnings in accordance with the terms of each plan.
