Position Description:

The Website UX Testing Lead plays a key role in ensuring redesigned websites are intuitive, accessible, and fully functional across devices and user groups. This role drives both manual and automated usability and accessibility testing, identifies issues early in the redesign process, and partners with design, development, and content teams to deliver inclusive, user-centered digital experiences.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Lead manual and automated testing of redesigned websites to uncover usability issues, bugs, and design inconsistencies across browsers and devices.
  • Validate that design updates enhance the user experience without introducing new barriers or regressions.
  • Audit designs for conformance to WCAG 2.1 standards, paying special attention to users with disabilities and those with limited digital literacy.
  • Recommend and track design changes to remove access barriers and improve overall inclusivity.
  • Develop and maintain structured test plans, issue logs, and resolution tracking.
  • Present concise, actionable findings to UX designers, developers, content teams, and leadership stakeholders.
  • Partner closely with UX designers, developers, and content editors through all phases of redesign to integrate testing feedback.
  • Advocate for user-centered improvements and become the resident expert on usability and accessibility best practices.
  • Stay current with emerging usability and accessibility testing tools and methodologies.
  • Promote a culture of quality and inclusivity by sharing insights, training colleagues, and refining testing processes.

Required Skills:

  • Principles of website testing, quality assurance methodologies, and web browsing behaviors of non-technical users.
  • Accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1) and usability best practices.
  • Familiarity with common content management systems and site structures (e.g., Drupal, WordPress).
  • Hands-on experience with screen readers and other assistive technologies.
  • Proficiency in manual and automated usability testing tools (e.g., Hotjar, Maze, Optimal Workshop).
  • Working knowledge of HTML/CSS and ability to review front-end code for accessibility.
  • Experience with bug-tracking and project management tools (e.g., SiteImprove, Jira, Trello).
  • Basic understanding of web analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, Matomo).
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and time management abilities.
  • Excellent written and visual communication skills for reporting findings.
  • Demonstrated empathy, curiosity, and ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor s degree in Human Computer Interaction, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Proven experience leading usability and accessibility testing for web redesigns.
  • Familiarity with government or large-scale enterprise environments is a plus.
  • Prior experience with assistive technologies and web analytics tools.
