Job at a Glance

The client is seeking a Product Designer I to join their Product Design team, which specializes in delivering intuitive, easy-to-use retail technology products across the customer journey. This role is focused on re-designing content-focused UI components, applying atomic design principles in Figma, and contributing to an evolving retail design system.

This is a fully remote, 6-month contract role requiring 2–5 years of experience in product design, ideally in retail or e-commerce settings.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Audit and assess existing content-centric UI components and patterns for consistency, accessibility, and system alignment.

  • Restructure and recreate these components within the advanced retail design system framework.

  • Apply atomic design methodology: define and manage tokens, atoms, molecules, and organisms with semantic variables.

  • Elevate aesthetics: produce polished UI deliverables in Figma, aesthetic storytelling, and high fidelity prototypes.

  • Collaborate with content teams and Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) content fragments or similar platforms.

Team-Based Product Design Work

  • Learn and collaborate within a balanced product team including product managers, software engineers, and business stakeholders.

  • Participate in structured team formation activities to align purpose, roles, and working agreements.

Discovery and Research

  • Conduct research discovery to define problems.

  • Apply mixed-methods research practices.

  • Gather user feedback and behavioral insights to inform product development.

Experimentation and Development

  • Validate design effectiveness pre-launch using experimentation, prototype testing, A/B testing, usability testing, etc.

  • Work with the Homefield design system to deliver end-to-end experiences in collaboration with software engineers.

Ongoing Feedback and Improvement

  • Monitor usage trends and metrics.

  • Seek and activate user feedback to drive iterative improvements.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

  • 2–5 years of experience in product design, with a strong focus on retail or e-commerce applications.

  • Mastery of Figma including component libraries, variants, prototyping, design tokens, and semantic variables.

  • Deep understanding of atomic design systems and scalable UI architecture.

  • Excellent visual design skills (typography, layout, grid, color, illustration integration).

  • Experience with content systems (AEM, Contentful, content fragments, etc.) is a major plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Portfolio demonstrating system-based redesigns, component libraries, or content module work.

  • Experience translating content strategy into UI components.

  • Familiarity with accessibility standards, semantic markup, and responsive, tokenized UI.

Additional Attributes

  • Foundational understanding of product design and lean product development processes.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Collaboration skills across disciplines such as engineering and product management.

  • Customer-centric mindset and problem-solving frameworks.

  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle.

This is a fully remote position.
