Your Role:
We are currently seeking an Applications Engineer for the Downstream Filtration R&D Applications Group within MilliporeSigma's Process Solutions business unit. In this role you will support the development of innovative downstream processing products that support the manufacture of life-saving biopharmaceuticals. This position will be based at our Bedford, MA campus.
As a senior-level researcher, you will lead technology and product applications development efforts to deliver advanced filtration and solid/liquid separation technologies intended for a wide range of bioprocessing applications. Process technologies include normal flow filtration, tangential flow filtration, and adsorptive media processes designed for the purification of biopharmaceuticals. The successful researcher will plan and execute projects directed to the identification, assessment, and commercialization of new downstream processing technologies enabling the cost-effective purification of biological products. In this position, the researcher will interact with a variety of business functions outside of R&D to develop and refine customer needs and requirements, direct alpha/beta prototype field trials, and assist in knowledge transfer from R&D to the field during and after product launch. - Develop materials, devices, and methods that achieve cost and performance objectives
Who You Are:
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mathematics or other Engineering or STEM discipline
OR
- Master's in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or Mathematics or other Engineering or STEM discipline and 3+ years of industrial experience in biotechnology or bioprocessing research and development
OR
- Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering Mathematics or other Engineering or STEM discipline and 5+ years of industrial experience in biotechnology or bioprocessing research and development
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong fundamental understanding of chemical engineering principles
- Knowledge of Biopharmaceutical filtration products, processes, and applications including normal flow and tangential flow filters
- Experience working in a laboratory planning and conducting experiments and developing and validating test methods
- Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate technical information as well as the ability to clearly communicate innovative product designs, applications, technologies, or concepts to management
- Proficiency in experimental design and execution and in basic statistical data analysis as well as advanced statistical analysis with regards to DOE and data analysis
- A track record of publications (journal articles, patents, etc.) and conference presentations with a clear working knowledge of previous academic or industrial fields
- Knowledge of computational fluid dynamics methodology and software (e.g. Comsol)
- Software proficiencies in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Proficiencies in Minitab and basic coding (e.g. VBA, Python, Matlab, Labview).
- Knowledge of data acquisition systems with regards to software (e.g. Labview) and hardware (e.g. pressure transducers, load cells
