Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced MemSQL Database Administrator (DBA) to join our growing engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing, optimizing, and scaling MemSQL clusters to ensure peak database performance, security, and availability. You'll work closely with developers, system administrators, and other cross-functional teams to deliver high-performing database solutions that support mission-critical applications in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

MemSQL Database Management

  • Install, configure, and maintain MemSQL clusters across environments.

  • Monitor, diagnose, and resolve issues impacting performance, availability, or security.

  • Oversee database clustering, replication, backup, and restore procedures to ensure maximum uptime.

  • Maintain data integrity while ensuring replication and recovery processes function seamlessly.

Performance Optimization

  • Analyze and tune SQL queries for performance and efficiency.

  • Collaborate with developers to optimize query design and indexing strategies.

  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across storage, I/O, and network layers.

  • Apply advanced techniques such as sharding, partitioning, and indexing for optimal scalability.

  • Continuously enhance MemSQL architecture to meet evolving application demands.

High Availability & Disaster Recovery

  • Design and implement automated failover, clustering, and replication solutions.

  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery strategies ensuring business continuity.

Database Security

  • Implement and manage robust security controls including encryption, role-based access, and auditing.

  • Stay updated on emerging database security threats and proactively strengthen the environment.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Partner with application teams to support schema design and query optimization.

  • Work with system administrators to ensure efficient use of compute and storage resources.

  • Deliver regular reports on performance metrics, capacity, and uptime.

Documentation & Best Practices

  • Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, tuning benchmarks, and troubleshooting steps.

  • Establish and enforce database management best practices across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator with a strong focus on MemSQL or similar distributed SQL platforms.

  • Deep understanding of MemSQL architecture, including sharding, replication, and clustering.

  • Strong proficiency in SQL, with hands-on experience in advanced querying and query optimization.

  • Experience managing databases in cloud environments (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure).

  • Solid grasp of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.

  • Skilled in using monitoring and troubleshooting tools such as Prometheus or Grafana.

  • Familiarity with automation tools like Ansible or Terraform is an advantage.

Preferred Skills

  • Exposure to NoSQL/NewSQL databases (e.g., Cassandra, CockroachDB).

  • Understanding of DevOps principles and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Scripting experience in Python or Bash for database automation.

  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
