Job Title: Mainframe DB2 Database Administrator

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mainframe DB2 Database Administrator to support and maintain mission-critical database systems within a z/OS operating environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in DB2 database administration, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer and maintain DB2 databases on IBM z/OS mainframe systems.
  • Perform logical and physical database design, including creation of tablespaces, tables, views, and indexes.
  • Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies to ensure optimal system efficiency.
  • Execute routine database maintenance procedures such as LOAD, REORG, IMAGECOPY, RUNSTATS, and RECOVERY.
  • Collaborate with application development teams to support database integration with COBOL and Java-based applications.
  • Document database configurations, maintenance procedures, and operational guidelines.
  • Provide incident response and troubleshooting support for database-related issues.
  • Participate in capacity planning and system upgrades to support evolving business needs.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with organizational standards.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Proven experience administering DB2 databases in a mainframe z/OS environment.
  • Strong understanding of database internals and performance optimization techniques.
  • Proficiency in database design and schema management.
  • Familiarity with COBOL and Java interfaces to DB2.
  • Solid grasp of mainframe operating system fundamentals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong technical writing skills for documentation and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with automation tools and scripting for database maintenance.
  • Exposure to enterprise monitoring tools and performance dashboards.
  • Knowledge of ITIL or other service management frameworks.
