Duration: Long-Term Contract

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced SQL Database Developer to support and stabilize an existing production Microsoft Access/SQL Server environment. The role focuses on diagnosing system issues, performing bug fixes, and creating documentation to ensure reliable daily operational workflows. This position will also provide knowledge transfer to internal technical staff and collaborate with business users to resolve issues effectively.

This developer will support a legacy Microsoft Access application currently used for daily accounting operations and will maintain alignment with a separate modernization project (without performing modernization work directly). Extensions are possible based on performance and project need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Stabilize and support an existing Microsoft Access database application used in daily operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in the Access front end and SQL Server back end.
  • Ensure daily workflows run reliably and consistently.
  • Document business logic, workflows, database structures, and application processes.
  • Provide knowledge transfer and operational guidance to internal technical staff.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather clarifications and validate solutions.
  • Follow established change control, documentation, and testing processes.
  • Work within the existing architecture and constraints of a legacy system.
  • Coordinate with the modernization team to ensure system alignment without redesigning the current application.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Access and VBA for debugging existing forms, queries, and modules.
  • Strong experience with SQL Server, including queries, stored procedures, and debugging.
  • Ability to reverse-engineer and maintain legacy applications without redesigning them.
  • Experience stabilizing systems during transition periods.
  • Understanding of accounting or financial workflow systems (preferred).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for documentation and knowledge transfer.
  • Ability to adhere to strict change control and documentation standards.
  • Comfortable working within legacy architecture and existing constraints.
