Position Overview:
We are actively seeking an experienced Central Office Installer with a strong background in telecom infrastructure, specifically within central office environments. This role requires a highly technical individual with hands-on experience in DC power systems, BDFB integration, cabling (fiber and copper), synchronization systems, and AT&T-standard installations. Cell site technicians need not apply this role is strictly CO-based.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, integrate, and commission telecom infrastructure within central office environments.
Pull, terminate, and fuse DC power cables (typically -48VDC) from Battery Distribution Fuse Bays (BDFBs) to network elements.
Perform detailed work on power plant additions, including the installation of secondary power distribution (e.g., GMT, TPA, and TPS fuses).
Route, secure, and label fiber optic (SM/MM) and copper (Cat5e/6, coax, DSX) cabling per engineering standards and cable matrix documentation.
Install and test sync equipment, including BITS clocks, timing distribution panels, and DS1/SSU sync interfaces.
Terminate and test fiber connectors (LC/SC/ST), copper punch-downs (110/66 blocks), and coaxial terminations with proper RF specs.
Use test equipment such as OTDRs, fiber scopes, TDRs, power meters, and Fluke testers to verify installation integrity.
Read and interpret rack elevation diagrams, MOPs, circuit layouts, and AT&T engineering packages (CFRs, IORs).
Ensure full compliance with AT&T TP standards and industry best practices (GR-1275, GR-487, etc.).
Document all installation work using site-specific and AT&T-required forms, including redlines and as-builts.
Minimum Qualifications:
5+ years of hands-on experience in a Central Office installation role.
Proven experience with DC power systems, BDFBs, and fuse panel installations.
Extensive knowledge of cable management systems (ladder racks, fiber troughs, fiber raceways).
Ability to work with and terminate various types of cables including fiber, DS1/DS3, Cat6, and power cabling.
Demonstrated experience with AT&T projects and familiarity with AT&T s installation methodologies and documentation.
Strong working knowledge of sync signal distribution and equipment (e.g., GPS receivers, PRS/SSU systems).
Ability to read and understand complex telecom schematics, rack layouts, and BOMs.
