Job Description
The Junior Network Operations Specialist (NOC) monitors and supports the organization's network infrastructure to ensure stability, security, and performance. This entry-level role involves responding to alerts, troubleshooting basic network issues, escalating complex problems, and assisting in routine network maintenance. The specialist will work in a fast-paced Network Operations Center (NOC) and collaborate with senior engineers to develop technical skills and expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Monitoring & Incident Response
Monitor network health, performance, and security using NOC tools.
Respond to network alerts and incidents, performing initial troubleshooting and resolution.
Escalate complex or unresolved issues to network engineers.
Maintain accurate records of incidents and resolutions in the ticketing system.
Basic Network Troubleshooting & Support
Assist with diagnosing network connectivity issues for users and systems.
Support routine maintenance tasks such as firmware updates and device reboots.
Conduct basic troubleshooting of routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless networks.
Follow established procedures for network change management and documentation.
Security & Compliance Support
Assist in monitoring network security for threats or unauthorized access.
Follow security best practices and report any suspected security incidents.
Support VPN connectivity and firewall rule reviews under supervision.
Documentation & Learning
Maintain network documentation, diagrams, and troubleshooting guides.
Continuously learn and develop technical skills through training and mentoring.
Participate in team meetings and contribute to process improvements.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Associate or bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
0-2 years of experience in IT, networking, or technical support.
Basic understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VLANs.
Familiarity with network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
Experience with network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG) is a plus.
Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in a 24/7 NOC environment, including shift work if required.
Preferred certifications: CompTIA Network+, CCNA (or willingness to obtain).
Work Environment:
24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC) environment; may require shift work or On-Call rotations.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr.
