Data Protection Platform Engineering Manager

Ahold Delhaize USA is a dynamic and innovative leader in the Retail technology industry. We are seeking a highly qualified Platform Engineering Manager to lead the engineering team responsible for Data Protection in our data centers and the cloud. Job Summary:

The Data Protection Platform Engineering Manager will play a crucial role in our organization, overseeing storage platforms and solutions used for backups, operational recovery, disaster recovery and leading a team of talented engineers. This role requires technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to driving innovation in platform engineering domains.

The role involves managing a team of engineers, designing data protection solutions, and addressing operational issues. Qualifications include expertise in data protection technology, capacity management, along with people management experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Data Protection Infrastructure Leadership: Lead a team of engineers, managed service providers, and technology vendors in designing, implementing, and maintaining data protection solutions across data centers and cloud environments. Ensure high availability, performance, and scalability. Be a technical expert on storage, backup, recovery, ransomware protection, operational recovery, and disaster recovery platforms and technologies. Keep up to date with the latest trends and developments in the storage and data protection industry.
  • Backup, Recovery, and Data Integrity: Manage the backup and recovery strategies for all data storage, including development and maintenance of comprehensive plans to ensure data integrity, minimize downtime in the event of data loss, data retention, and data purge.
  • Disaster Recovery & Ransomware Protection: Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of disaster recovery solutions to ensure data continuity in the face of catastrophic events with best practice driven testing and review of documented procedures.
  • People Management: Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of platform engineers. Provide coaching, guidance, and professional development opportunities to promote team growth and excellence. Establish and ensure that the team is meeting its goals and objectives.
  • Operational Escalations: Address and resolve operational escalations, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the timely and effective resolution of issues affecting storage systems. Respond to and be available for operational escalations received from the Service Delivery organization.
  • Final Design and Architecture: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop the final system designs and architectures, ensuring they meet business and technical requirements.
  • Work with peers, architecture, and application product management to define the roadmap for the platform and to prioritize feature development. Oversee the development of new features and enhancements and ensure that the platforms meet the needs of the business and our customers.
  • Establish key performance indicators for monitoring, observability, capacity management, and capacity planning for all platforms within this domain.
  • Manage the team's budget and resources including review of capital and expense items, contractor, and third-party managed service provider requirements, statements of work, invoices, and purchase orders.
  • Experience with DevOps and Agile development practices within the context of Infrastructure as Code.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in Data Protection & Storage engineering, with expertise with on-premises or colocation data centers and cloud environments.
  • 5+ years of management experience including people management and team development.
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Extensive experience in Data Protection & Storage Platforms including a deep understanding of storage technologies, RAID, SAN, NAS, and object storage.
  • Strong project management skills and experience with disaster recovery planning and execution.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills along with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with security compliance programs such as ISO, PCI, HIPPA, is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to complete assigned deliverables.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Experience with specific storage platforms and technologies, such as HPE, NetApp, EMC, IBM, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with specific Data Protction management software, such as Veeam, Rubrik, Zerto, Commvault, or IBM Storage Protect (TSM).
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with DevOps and Agile development practices including Kanban.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Azure Certified Solutions Architect, CompTIA Storage+, EMC Storage Administrator, etc.) are a plus.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, DevSecOps, GitOps including technologies like ansible, python, PowerShell, terraform, or saltstack for the management of technology infrastructure.
  • Experience with Site Reliability Engineering implementation and best practices.
