Job Summary

General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world's leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) is rapidly expanding its Optical Technologies Group, building a world-class, vertically integrated capability in multi-spectral space and airborne electro-optical / infrared (EO/IR) sensor payloads, optical communication terminals (OCTs), adaptive optics (AO), missile seekers, active imaging, and directed energy (DE) systems. Our mission is to deliver cutting-edge technologies that protect the nation and its warfighters.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Optical Integration Engineer to fill a lead role in the design, development, and integration of advanced electro-optical systems. The ideal candidate will be a technical expert with a strong background in the design, integration, and testing of electro-optical systems. As an engineering lead, you will oversee the entire lifecycle of electro-optical system development, from concept design through validation, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with customer requirements.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the design and development of electro-optical systems, including evaluating and modeling sensor performance, working with optical, electrical and software engineering to ensure all components meet the system requirements.
  • Drive system architecture decisions, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Provide technical leadership to engineering teams, fostering innovation and collaboration.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, requirements analysis, and risk assessments for new projects.
  • Oversee the development of detailed design documentation, including specifications, schematics, and test plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of electro-optical systems into larger platforms.
  • Manage technical aspects of customer engagements, including presentations, reviews, and troubleshooting.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, applying them to enhance system capabilities.

We recognize and appreciate the value and contributions of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences and welcome all qualified individuals to apply.

  • Proven expertise in designing and integrating optical systems, including lenses, detectors, lasers, and imaging components.
  • Proficient with MATLAB.
  • Experience with simulation and modeling tools (e.g., Zemax, Code V).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and a track record of managing complex technical projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in defense, aerospace, or other regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of ITAR/EAR regulations and compliance.
