About the Position

The Cost Accountant I will collect and analyze cost data, allocate expenses, and prepare detailed reports on materials, labor, equipment, and operations. This position ensures compliance with established accounting procedures and supports ongoing cost improvement initiatives. The role will also contribute to cost analysis for new products or services to maintain Client s competitive edge in the market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger and departments.
  • Coordinate product costing, including calculation and review of machine/labor hours, overhead rates, raw material costs, and production process changes.
  • Initiate and monitor physical inventory and cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy; investigate and resolve variances.
  • Review and analyze inventory reports and perform analytical studies related to cost analyses and profitability.
  • Close production jobs timely and assist with special accounting projects as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain spreadsheet-based reports and perform financial analysis to support decision-making.
  • Recommend improvements to accounting processes and cost control procedures.
  • Support audit activities and assist with general ledger reconciliations.
  • Respond to accounting and financial inquiries through research and data interpretation.
  • Uphold Client s core values, mission, and vision in all work activities.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: 0 3 years of relevant accounting experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Experience in cost accounting and familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics AX, Lotus, and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Strong understanding of GAAP principles, cost allocation methods, and inventory valuation.
    • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Analytical thinker with strong Excel and data interpretation skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
