ONSITE - Alexandria, Virginia
6 month temp-to-perm
Compensation [hourly while on contract] - $67/h (without PTO) OR $60/h (with PTO)
Conversion salary - $130k-$140k
Contractor Work Model: ON SITE
Security Clearance: Secret Clearance (Top Secret Eligible)

ALTA IT Services is seeking a highly skilled SolarWinds Engineer to support the installation, configuration, and operational monitoring of SolarWinds across a large-scale enterprise environment. The ideal candidate will work closely with system administrators and network teams to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability of network and server infrastructure.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Installation/Upgrade/Testing
  • Support SolarWinds installations, upgrades, and testing of multiple tier, multiple server SolarWinds platform including:
  • At least twice-yearly platform upgrades
  • Apply critical security vulnerability patches as needed
  • Provide SolarWinds expertise at all levels of installations, upgrades, and testing
  • Support Installation and testing at all remote sites to include:
  • Troubleshoot any installation or upgrade problems
  • Configuration as needed
  • Document and provide Lessons Learned if applicable
Application Growth and Development
  • Create custom dashboards for remote and domestic users and groups including:
  • Groupings based on custom properties
  • Dynamic custom property-based dashboards that can display based on AD group membership
  • Adding components as needed including the following:
  • Additional web front end servers
  • Additional polling engines

Operations Support:
Track and monitor all SolarWinds installations using web console including the following panels, Windows, Virtualization, Network, Agents, SNMP, ICMP, and polling
  • Address and resolve submitted support tickets for SolarWinds
  • Provide the help desk with initial troubleshooting steps to determine type of ticket needed
  • Handle day-to-day checks and monitoring

Support Ticket Management
  • Address and resolve submitted support tickets for SolarWinds.
  • Provide help desk with initial troubleshooting steps to determine the appropriate ticket type.
  • Daily System Checks and Monitoring
  • Perform routine checks and monitoring of systems and infrastructure.

Network Performance Monitoring
  • Detect, report, diagnose, and resolve network performance issues.

Virtual Infrastructure Monitoring
  • Support monitoring of virtual devices including:
  • ESXi and ESX Server (version 6.7 or later)
  • VMware vSphere (version 6.7 or later)

Server and Application Monitoring
  • Monitor server and application health and performance.
  • Conduct login credential monitoring for Windows and VMware servers.
  • Review system and application logs regularly.

SQL Server Monitoring
  • Monitor SQL Server databases.
  • Perform database tuning and optimization.
  • Provide cross-training of basic SolarWinds administrative tasks to junior team members as needed
  • Provide weekly and monthly report metrics and dashboards
  • Highlight any emergency concerns as soon as they are identified, provide Risk information and mitigation if identified.

  • NEA - European and Eurasian Affairs

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least seven (7) years' experience working in a large complex environment (> 4K infrastructure components and applications).
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or related field required, equivalent years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree
  • Must have an understanding in the administration, support, configuration, and operation of the following:
  • Routers, switches
  • Wireless (Cisco WLC)
  • Firewalls (VPN, remote access)
  • Cisco Call manager (CUCM)
  • Cisco Netflow configuration
  • Storage (Brocade, Netapp, Commvault ,DXI)
  • Server (Windows, Nix)
  • Applications (AD, DHCP, DNS, SaaS, PaaS)
  • Databases (SQL, DB2, Oracle)
  • Web (IIS, WebSphere)
  • Email (Exchange, OWA)
  • VMware, Hyper-V
  • Pingdom Web monitoring (CSS, HTML, synthetic transactions)
  • Competent understanding of mixed-technology solutions
  • Act as part of a structured operations team in support of resolving technical issues
  • Availability to troubleshoot and resolve issues during off-work hours and/or extended hours when outages or projects required
  • Mentoring Skills: Proven ability to provide technical leadership and mentoring
  • Organizational Skills (ability to organize large amounts of data in a logical manner)
  • Excellent Troubleshooting Skills.
  • Strong communication skills are required
  • Excellent documentation skills are required
  • Ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical executives and managers
  • Work is performed in a fast-paced Information Technology environment
