Job Description - Technical Writer / Business Analyst

Contract Duration: 6 months (possible extension)
Location: Remote; DMV candidates preferred, but EST/CST considered for the right candidate
Work Schedule: Standard business hours
Interview Process: Single round


Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Technical Writer / Business Analyst to join our team. This role is more technical writing-focused than a traditional BA position, with a primary emphasis on creating clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation for complex claims processing workflows. The successful candidate will collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gather knowledge, compare new data against existing documentation, and produce high-quality manuals, job aids, and SOPs.

Assignments are already scoped through year-end, with the potential for extension based on performance and project needs.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and update functional/non-functional requirements documentation from business inputs.

  • Collaborate with SMEs to gather details, ask clarifying questions, and translate technical information into clear, consumable content.

  • Compare incoming data with existing documentation for accuracy and completeness.

  • Rewrite and refine existing manuals, SOPs, and job aids to improve clarity, structure, and usability.

  • Facilitate and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) processes, as needed.

  • Provide consultation, advice, and technical assistance to project stakeholders throughout implementation.

  • Support internal/external integrations, including design, testing, and troubleshooting.

  • Ensure documentation aligns with established standards and is accessible via tools such as Word, SharePoint, and Excel.

  • Deliver accurate reporting and metrics related to system performance and documentation processes.

  • Participate in user training sessions when required.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree in Business, Computer Science, Technical Communication, or a related field.

  • Minimum 5 years experience in technical writing, systems analysis, or related role.

  • Strong background in producing clear technical documentation for non-technical audiences.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, SharePoint, and basic Excel (no advanced formulas required).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple priorities.

  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive data appropriately.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in insurance or healthcare claims processing.

  • Experience working with government agencies or public sector entities.

  • Familiarity with Accela or Cityworks AMS/PLL.

  • Knowledge of GIS principles and spatial data concepts.

  • Experience extracting data via SQL and building custom reports.


Additional Information

  • This role will assume responsibilities from a departing contractor; the ability to quickly onboard and maintain momentum is essential.
