Job Title: Senior Database Administrator Mainframe DB2 Logical

Location: Weehawken, NJ OR Morrisville, NC (Onsite 4 5 days/week; Relocation Assistance Provided)

Employment Type: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator Mainframe DB2 to join our client, a leading global financial institution. The ideal candidate will manage, optimize, and maintain mission-critical DB2 environments on mainframe z/OS systems, ensuring high performance, availability, and disaster recovery readiness. This role is ideal for professionals with a strong foundation in mainframe database administration, tuning, and client support.

Key Responsibilities

Provide advanced DB2 administration and application support for mainframe environments.

Design, develop, and maintain databases, including performance tuning, reorganization, and space management.

Support multiple DB2 subsystems, ensuring operational stability and optimal resource utilization.

Perform database creation, refresh, backup, restore, and disaster recovery (DR) procedures.

Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to resolve database-related issues and implement best practices.

Manage client migration projects and assist project managers with technical transitions and onboarding.

Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation and provide after-hours database support as required.

Follow ITSM change control procedures and ensure compliance with internal and external standards.

Mandatory Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.

12+ years of hands-on experience with Mainframe DB2 administration and application support.

Strong expertise in DB2 subsystem management, SQL optimization, performance tuning, and buffer pool analysis.

Experience with backup/recovery, DR setup, data reorganization, and test data refresh processes.

Proficient in CA, BMC, and IBM database administration tools for mainframe environments.

Ability to work across multiple time zones and support enterprise clients in a 24x7 operation.

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.

Preferred Skills

Experience defining and implementing database management policies and DR frameworks.

Familiarity with DB2 security audits and risk mitigation.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.

Previous experience supporting financial services or banking sector clients is highly desirable.
