Job Title: SQL Server DBA

Location: Memphis, TN

Job Type: Contract to Hire

We are looking for a SQL Server DBA with both on-perm, Azure experience and CosmosDB as well.

Job description:

The DBA is responsible for management and administration of database technologies for key systems across the enterprise. They ensure high-quality database health and integrity, while managing tools and processes to ensure overall efficiency, reliability, availability, recoverability, and security of company databases. The DBA will ensure seamless delivery of database services that positions the business for success.

 

  • Configuring, deploying, and maintaining critical database technology across the organization
  • Collaborating with software development teams, technical colleagues, and vendors
  • Providing critical support for priority incidents
  • Proactively resolving database issues and developing preventive action plans
  • Identifying/ automating repeatable tasks, leveraging innovation to refine and streamline existing processes
  • Defining standards and implementing best practices for database management
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a comprehensive capacity and with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage with a variety of audiences.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills

  • Expertise in SQL Server database concepts
  • Strong experience with database fundamentals (i.e indexing strategies and query execution plans)
  • Experience working with 3rd party providers and off-shore teams to deliver DBA capabilities
  • Cloud Architecture knowledge/ skills
  • Design, implement, maintain, and monitor database servers across environments including but not limited to Production, QA, and Development Environments.
  • Ensure High Availability and meet SLAs for systems across environments.
  • Design and implement monitoring solutions to achieve HA and SLA goals.
  • Reviews and audit all environments for best practices in security.
  • Assist in TSQL development (check-in, review, build, testing, and deployment) and support of SQL CI/CD life cycle.
  • Assist developers in best practices for writing queries / procedures.
  • Performs tuning to identify system performance bottlenecks.
  • Assist in system capacity planning.
  • Creates and implements new environments based on the needs of the business.
  • Designs and implements data systems integration.
  • Strong Knowledge of MS SQL Server, TSQL, Power Shell, and coding best practices.
  • Knowledge of CosmosDB & Postgres preferred.
  • Strong Knowledge of Azure Clouds Service(s).
  • Experience migrating On-premises database to Azure SQL Server DB and Managed Instances.
  • Strong Understanding of SQL Server high availability and disaster recovery technologies, such as availability groups, backups and restores, FCI, log shipping, mirroring, and replication.
  • Strong SQL Server administration skills, such as backups, restores, taking and reverting snapshots, user/role security, access permissions
  • Experience using Atlassian Jira & Confluence.

Education:

Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
