Location: Chicago, IL (O'Hare and Midway Airports) - Fully On-Site
Duration: Contract (2 months, with possibility of extension)
Work Shift: A typical shift is 20:00 to 04:00 (night shift) / 8pm – 4am

Job Description
We're seeking an experienced Senior Security Control Assessor to support a critical cybersecurity assessment initiative at Chicago's major airports. In this role, you'll be the expert ensuring that mission-critical airport systems meet the highest federal security standards. Your work will directly protect vital transportation infrastructure that serves millions of travelers annually.

This position requires someone who can operate independently from day one in a high-stakes environment. You'll conduct comprehensive security assessments, analyze risk indicators, document findings, and provide actionable recommendations to government stakeholders. The ideal candidate is passionate about cybersecurity, thrives in structured compliance environments, and understands the critical importance of protecting national infrastructure. You'll collaborate directly with airport IT teams, government officials, and security leadership while working night shifts on-site at O'Hare and Midway airports.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct security control assessments (SCAs) in accordance with NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF) and CNSS policies, standards, and guidelines
  • Provide validation, analysis, and comprehensive documentation of security assessments for airport systems, applications, and appliances
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve formal NSS assessment and compliance CONOPS and SOPs
  • Evaluate and update cybersecurity risk indicators, including emerging threats and vulnerabilities specific to aviation infrastructure
  • Deliver risk recommendations and track remediation efforts through POA&Ms and continuous monitoring processes
  • Author white papers and detailed reports identifying trends, adversary activity, and systemic cybersecurity risks
  • Support NSCD compliance engagements, engineering review boards, configuration control boards, and C-SCRM efforts
  • Document lessons learned and provide training and technical guidance to airport stakeholders and government personnel
  • Brief senior leadership on assessment findings, risk posture, and remediation strategies

Required Experience/Skills
  • Bachelor's degree with at least 15 years of related cybersecurity experience OR Master's degree with at least 13 years of related experience
  • Deep knowledge of Information Assurance policies, CNSS guidance, NIST RMF, and FISMA standards
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience conducting security audits, compliance assessments, and IT security review processes
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and "hit the ground running"
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to brief senior leadership and document complex technical findings
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to produce thorough, accurate documentation
  • U.S. citizenship (required)
  • Ability to work night shifts (8:00 PM to 4:00 AM)

Nice-to-Haves
  • Prior IT security or audit experience in federal government or defense contractor environments
  • Experience supporting high-security national mission environments or critical infrastructure
  • Familiarity with FIPS-140-2 and other federal compliance frameworks
  • Experience with TSA security requirements and aviation sector cybersecurity
  • Personal interest in aviation security and critical infrastructure protection

Education
Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field with 15+ years of experience, OR Master's degree in related field with 13+ years of experience

Pay & Benefits Summary
  • Hourly Rate: $82.49/hour
  • Travel reimbursement for airport site visits
  • 40 hours per week guaranteed
