A globally leading technology company is looking for a Product Design Engineer to join its elite Acoustics team. In this role, you ll help create innovative speaker modules that power world-class sound experiences across the company s next-generation products. As part of the Transducer Design team, you ll collaborate with acoustic engineers, cross-functional partners, and manufacturers to deliver exceptional audio performance and product quality. If you have strong mechanical engineering skills and a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, this is your opportunity to directly influence the sound millions of users enjoy every day. Join us and help shape the future of audio innovation.
Job Responsibilities:
Design and validate custom speaker modules for client s highly space-constrained products.
Lead the mechanical design of speaker module assembly and their components.
Partner with Transducer Design Engineers (who optimize the acoustic and magnetic performance of the module) and system Product Design Engineers (who integrate the module into a system).Working together you will balance the tradeoffs between acoustic performance, mechanical design, manufacturing, and reliability.
Work to generate 3D CAD and 2D drawings for speaker modules from scratch for all components, including: plastic enclosures, metal stampings, insert molded electrical connections, over-molded seals, magnet system subassemblies, and more. The designs will be reviewed by suppliers and multi-functional teams, requiring timely modifications to address design issues without impacting project schedule.
Handle multiple projects at the same time while working with multiple suppliers.
Contribute to improvements in the acoustic performance and reliability of the speaker modules by pursuing innovative ideas that bring the module to the limit of what s possible. This means developing new design approaches, exploring different assembly methods, introducing new materials, and implementing new manufacturing processes.
Ensure speaker components and modules can be manufactured in high volumes without issues, while meeting performance specifications.
Iterate on the design, develop test plans, generate reliability specifications, perform failure analysis, and conduct experiments (DOEs) to find design solutions and implement corrective actions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Most of our engineers have degrees in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent field, but if you ve followed a different path to expertise in mechanical design and engineering, we still want to hear from you.
Mechanical design experience generating 3D CAD and 2D drawings is required (NX experience is preferred).
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to achieve sophisticated geometry by understanding and influencing tooling design
Experience designing and selecting materials for mass produced injection molded plastic parts, progressively stamped metal parts, and the assembly processes that bring these parts together
Experience in the consumer electronics industry working with small or micro electromechanical assemblies
Proactive problem solving, including the development of reliability test plans and conducting root cause analysis
Capable of working with global suppliers and guiding actions in assembly and part production facilities
Ability to use dimensional data to inform part design decisions including: conducting tolerance stack analysis, applying GD&T to 2D drawings, establishing datums, understanding measurement techniques, analyzing data, identifying issues from dimensional data, and guiding part quality improvements
Type: Contract
Duration: 6 months (with a possibility to extend to 18 months)
Work Location: Cupertino, CA (Hybrid)
Pay Rate: $ 32.00 - $ 47.00 (DOE)
