Job Description
A Group Leader position in Indianapolis, Indiana is currently available at Belcan. To be considered for this
role, you will need a Bachelor's STEM degree, at least ten (10) years' experience in defense and aerospace with at least five (5) years of experience leading systems and/or software engineers. Remote candidates will be considered if they have at least ten years (10) experience in leading and managing remote teams. You will work closely with many different customers supporting various requirements and leading projects of varying size and capabilities. You will be an administrative resource manager for systems engineers supporting gas turbine engine developments as well as building teams for new customers in defense, aerospace and space markets. Must possess experience in resource management, good communication skills and strong leadership abilities in a multi-function, multi-project environment.
Job Duties:
Resource management and administrative management for system engineering team members develop talent, mentoring/coach of engineers, consult to teams, administer performance management, staffing assignments, and hiring of team members
Identifies problem areas and provide action plans.
Build and maintains discipline and morale for his/her group.
Systems engineering acumen in full life cycle development of embedded systems for aerospace, defense and/or other systems that require regulatory approval based on process-oriented ARP-4754, DO-178 or equivalent requirements.
Includes requirements development, requirements management, integration and test concepts, verification and validation.
Establishes liaison with client, determines client requirements and assures that all design data, criteria and conditions affecting the design of the plant are issued to and understood by the members of the project team.
Reviews and monitors all projects within his/her group.
Ensures proper training occurs when required and promotes skill development within his/her group.
Provide technical project management support, as needed, for projects and its assigned team members.
Lead people and / or multi-discipline projects that are executed by a combination of on-site and remote team members.
Qualifications:
Due to the nature of the work, ship is REQUIRED
Bachelor's or master's degree in, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field
Minimum of five (5) years full life cycle systems development experience with emphasis on requirements definition, design reviews, integration and test for new product introduction (NPI) and associated regulatory approvals.
Experience with systems engineering to conform to ARP-4754, DO-178C and similar regulatory guidance.
High attention to detail to effectively operate in within a team environment and understand how to solve highly technical problems and develop engineers for future assignments.
Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) concepts, tools and acumen in defense or aircraft applications.
Experienced with scripting, scripting principles and scripting languages (Python, Perl, "homegrown" language, etc.)
Ability to learn new tools and concepts quickly to develop staffing solutions and increase effectiveness of the project team.
Self-motivated and highly organized contributor willing to help others be successful - as a key team member you will earn responsibility, accountability to the team, and enjoy job satisfaction.
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to be inquisitive and be highly communicative are critical to your success in this role to enable team engagement, team representation to customers and stakeholders (verbal and non-verbal forms of communication).
Ability to travel locally up to 25%
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
Basic knowledge of gas turbine control systems is recommended but willingness to learn is at high pace will be required.
Requirements databases and/or software development tools and/or model-based development tools such as Cameo, Matlab/Simulink, LabView, DOORS, etc.,
The ability to understand system and software requirements and general systems engineering process
Understanding of control theory practical experience in verification and validation.
Experience in hiring systems engineers - both experience engineers as well as entry level candidates.
Compensation:
We provide a competitive pay and benefits package. This position is offering a salary rate of $120,000-$200,000, however, Belcan considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to education, experience, geographic location, and discipline.
