Job Description:
Apex is seeking a skilled Windows Engineer to support a U.S. Army cloud infrastructure initiative. This role involves working on a hyperconverged, multitenant private cloud hosting environment designed to support Army enterprise and tactical applications. The environment leverages a comprehensive suite of VMware products (ESXi, vSAN, NSX, vCloud Foundations, ARIA Automation, Tanzu) to implement a Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) across multiple global sites.
The project also integrates tools such as HashiCorp Vault, Terraform, Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, and the GitLab Ultimate Suite to deliver a robust automation platform and a DevSecOps framework for Army tactical users. The engineer will help deliver value-added services built on top of the VMware foundation to support hosted Army applications.

Job Description:

Position Duties:
- Collaborate with Government engineers to develop and maintain the cloud architecture.
- Develop, deploy, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for Windows-based services.
- Provision customer Windows resources using IaC as new applications are onboarded.
- Maintain patching services for all Windows hosts.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on Windows administration technologies and trends.
- Manage Active Directory objects as delegated.
- Perform Active Directory user account and member server management tasks.
- Provide daily administration of Windows-based virtual machines and services.
- Harden Windows services according to commercial best practices and government cybersecurity controls.
- Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis of Windows-related issues.
- Coordinate and execute major OS version upgrades for virtual machines.
- Develop and maintain system, infrastructure, and process documentation (e.g., diagrams, configurations, SOPs).
- Provide on-call support for after-hours production incidents.
- Recommend improvements to security, scalability, manageability, and performance across network, storage, and compute services.
Required Skills:
- Senior-level experience with Windows Server and Active Directory administration.
- Expertise in engineering, implementing, and sustaining Active Directory and Group Policy Objects.
- Strong skills in automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong troubleshooting abilities across the technology stack (network, storage, server, applications).
Desired Skills:
- Familiarity with DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and the Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM) process.
Required Certifications:
- Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570.01-M IA Tech Level II certification.
- Must have (or obtain within 6 months of hire) a Windows administrator-related computing environment certification (e.g., MCSA, MCSE, or equivalent) as defined in DoD 8570.01-M.
