We are working with a successful, full-service engineering firm that is seeking an experienced Senior Controls Engineer to join their team in Arlington, VA and Owings Mills, MD! The company focuses on the industrial, manufacturing, commercial, and government market sectors.

Job Title: Senior Controls Engineer
Location: Arlington, VA or Owings Mills, MD
Schedule: Monday-Friday; 6:30am-3pm
Salary: $120k-$170k/year based on experience

Job Details

The Senior Controls Engineer will be actively managing projects at a facility that is on the leading edge and actively pursuing integrating a very diverse set of building automation systems, industrial controls, sub metering systems, and operator interfaces.

ARLINGTON, VA JOB DETAILS:

Project Examples:
  • Adding instrumentation and integrating into control systems.
  • Replacing control system panels with panels that have up-to-date equipment.
  • Troubleshooting devices that have stopped functioning and proposing solutions.
  • Reviewing systems to recommend spare parts to be purchased.

Job Duties:
  • Designing and implementing small control system related continuous improvement projects.
  • Programing changes to the PLC and HMI system.
  • Troubleshooting controls related issues.
  • Management of field office which includes:
  • Coordinating the schedule of PM and other work with the customer and control techs.
  • Review of all reports generated.
  • Front line oversight of the two Control Techs
  • Support and supervise Control Techs in the calibration and maintenance of controls devices. (Examples of such devices are Pressure, Temperature, Level and Flow Transmitters, Motor starters, VFDs, Analyzers, and valves)
  • PLC System software support, to include updating regularly released patches and version upgrades by Allen Bradley or other PLC manufacturers.
  • Interface with clients to understand their needs and translate them into exceptional designs.

Requirements:
  • 10+ years of industry experience
  • 5+ years pf experience with industrial controls with Allen Bradley / Rockwell Hardware.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, chemical, electrical, etc.) OR at least 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA is required, preferably with ICONICS GENESIS64 HMI software package.
  • Experience with boilers, chillers, pumps, valves, building automation, and related systems.
  • Management Experience a plus
  • Control System Design experience is a plus.
  • Available to work on-site every day from 6:30am-3pm. (Free Parking pass is included)

OWINGS MILLS, MD JOB DETAILS:

  • Manage design of all levels of complexity including other electrical resources.
  • Manage existing customer relationships with the intent to foster new project work.
  • Specify, design, program and maintain automation control systems for a variety of industrial projects within the following markets: power, oil & gas, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, food & beverage facilities, etc.
  • Share your expertise and mentor Jr. Controls Engineers
  • Research applicable industry standards, prepare and critique engineering studies, analysis of systems, preliminary and detailed engineering designs.
  • Develop and review engineering specifications and project cost estimates.
  • Direct and review work of project design team, check progress of work and alert managers/clients to change of scope and additional services.
  • Coordinate all aspects of project document completion.
  • Direct contributing engineers and CAD designers for the preparation of construction and control panel design drawings.
  • Develop PLC/HMI/DCS programs.
  • Possess ability to interpret applicable codes.
  • Independently work with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to codes is required.
  • Coordinate project design with other engineering disciplines. Manage installation supervision, commissioning activities, and start-up coverage.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with eight years of applicable experience...

OR Master's degree from an accredited university; Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with six years of applicable experience
  • Professional Engineer licensure is a plus.
  • Certified Automation Professional (CAP) is a plus.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) is a plus.
  • Proficient in designing, reviewing, and approving Electrical Construction Drawing sets including but not limited to instrument location plan, conduit block diagrams, PLC/HMI panel designs, motor wiring diagrams, and network architecture drawings.
  • Proficient in designing, reviewing, and approving PLC control panel and motor control panel drawings.
  • Expert in specification and programming of controls systems including Rockwell family of processors and HMI's, ability to program new applications and modify existing applications.
  • Working knowledge of Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, PROFINET, and other industrial communication protocols.
  • Experience programming Wonderware, iFix, Maple, DeltaV, Ovation, Siemens PLCs, Omron, Modicon, Mitsubishi, Iconics, Ignition, and Koyo is a plus.
  • Experience programming SCADA
