Job Summary

Position Overview: Designs, develops, enhances, debugs, and implements software. Troubleshoots production problems related to software applications. Researches, tests, builds, and coordinates the conversion and/or integration of new products based on client requirements. Designs and develops new software products or major enhancements to existing software. Addresses problems of systems integration, compatibility, and multiple platforms. Consults with project teams and end-users to identify application requirements. Performs feasibility analysis on potential future projects to management. Assists in the evaluation and recommendation of application software packages, application integration, and testing tools. Resolves problems with software and responds to suggestions for improvements and enhancements. Acts as a team leader on projects. Instructs, assigns, directs, and checks the work of other software developers on the development team. Participates in the development of software user manuals and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Uses various Java tools to develop new and maintain existing, applications in support of the Air Force
  • Supports all aspects of the software development life cycle process, including needs definition, requirements analysis, resource estimating, software design and documentation, coding, and unit-testing
  • Prepare and present project status reports and statistics to management, customer, and others as required
    Use knowledge of business processes to make technical recommendations to customers for process improvements
  • Performs defect correction, including root cause analysis, on pending and production releases

Required Skills

  • Minimum of five years of developer experience with J2EE/JEE and Java
  • Experienced with Web Services (REST/SOAP/SOA)
  • Knowledge of application development life cycle /application reporting alternatives
  • Aptitude for complex problem analysis/resolution
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate to the target audience
  • Ability to effectively work with all levels of personnel within the organization
  • Detail-focused; uses sound judgment, and is self-motivated with the ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Expert skills in creating and maintaining Java programing

Nice to have

  • Business analysis experience, systems engineering…strong analytical aptitude
  • Working knowledge of DoDAF modeling experience
  • Basic skills in source code management tools such as StarTeam, CVS or Git
  • Self-starter, motivated, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field of study; 5 years of Java programming may substitute for Degree
