Job Details

We are a global engineering services and contracting firm supporting a leading Automotive / Electric Vehicle manufacturer. We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer – Test Automation to design and build mechanical test systems for vehicle electronics, supporting everything from early R&D through high-volume manufacturing.

This is a hands-on, high-impact contract role working at the intersection of mechanical design, electronics testing, and manufacturing automation.

🔧 What You’ll Do

  • Design modular, reusable mechanical fixtures for testing vehicle electronics (ECUs), from manual bench-top setups to fully automated production systems
  • Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to define mechanical test requirements and improve ECU testability
  • Design custom mechanical interfaces including pogo-pin connections, bed-of-nails probing, and mass interconnect solutions
  • Develop rack-based test systems that scale efficiently for manufacturing environments
  • Create and release detailed drawings, BOMs, specifications, and SOPs
  • Provide technical oversight to vendors for fabrication and system builds
  • Support station build, integration, commissioning, and deployment
  • Work closely with technicians to ensure correct implementation and performance

✅ Required Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years designing modular mechanical hardware for test automation systems (R&D → high-volume manufacturing)
  • Expert-level experience with 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks strongly preferred, Inventor, AutoCAD, ProE)
  • Strong ability to read electrical schematics, navigate PCB layouts, and interpret component datasheets
  • Hands-on experience with automated test equipment (ATE) and hardware integration
  • Background in automotive, EV, semiconductor, or aerospace environments
  • Experience with electronics testing / probing / harnessing, including:
  • Mass interconnect systems (e.g., VPC)
  • Specialty probes (e.g., Ingun)

🌟 Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with vehicle communication protocols (CAN, CAN FD, LIN, DoIP, Automotive Ethernet)
  • Experience with test instrumentation:
  • Programmable power supplies
  • DMMs, multiplexers
  • Signal generators and analyzers
  • Multifunction DAQ devices (analog & digital)

💼 Why This Opportunity

  • Work with a top-tier Automotive / EV OEM
  • Highly technical, hands-on engineering role
  • Exposure to cutting-edge vehicle electronics and automation
  • Contract role with strong potential for long-term engagement
