Job Description:

Salary: $65,000 to $75,000; DOE

Performs professional work and leadership in the design, development, implementation, operation, and maintenance of computer and business systems to meet user needs for the University Housing department. Provides support to users of information technology tools. Work typically involves a combination of giving expert advice and troubleshooting on groups of software products or an entire system, assessing, planning for, and implementing new technology, administering and maintaining shared-user systems, communicating with users and user groups on technology topics, and providing instruction.

Currently hiring for the following shift: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm - Occasional evenings and weekends may be required based on business needs.

Working Environment:
  • Sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Work collaboratively across various departments within the University, as well as with diverse populations and groups
  • Use computers effectively - including inputting, reviewing, and retrieving information, extended periods of viewing a screen, and using a mouse and keyboard
  • Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze data
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Walk throughout campus for meetings or events, regardless of the weather
  • Work collaboratively to achieve objectives
  • Climb stairs in locations with no elevator, such as the mezzanine level of the MU, or Irish Hall
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs.

Essential Duties:
  • Mentors, trains, schedules, and leads staff responsible for delivering various routine services.
  • Provides leadership to department acquisition and operation of technology resources (computers, servers, networks, software, data services).
  • In conjunction with department Directors, works with administration to define, adapt, develop, and implement technology hardware and software solutions to the research, communications, and security needs of the department.
  • Directly interfaces with staff and/or administrators regarding ongoing operations, applications, and existing resources.
  • Where possible, develops and recommends alternative solutions to existing systems and processes.
  • Manages Department Unit projects related to applications (networking, software, implementation, security).
  • Conducts direct liaison with university IT staff regarding ongoing operation, application, and existing resources.
  • Oversees troubleshooting and help desk activities.
  • Participates in the formulation of technology plans and policies.
  • Acts as the primary system administrator of the department's Housing occupancy management system
  • Administers the implementation of projects and the application of policies within the Department Unit.
  • Writes and/or updates detailed user documentation and manuals for operational applications, including data flow illustrations; distributes or arranges distribution of system documentation.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communications with customers, other technology specialists, and vendors about services
  • Maintains a high degree of technical knowledge and expertise on a group of technology products or on a technology platform through research, personal use, vendor presentations, and training.
  • Repairs or resolves a wide variety of problems and confers with or escalates problems to vendors, contractors, or others in the university, to ensure a resolution is reached.
  • Coordinates with other information technology organizations, including the central IT organization, to ensure optimal use and efficiency of computer and related resources.
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of StarRez software or other Housing or Occupancy Management Systems
  • Knowledge of basic Housing operations and procedures in Higher Education
  • Experience creating SQL queries
  • Knowledge of current and future trends in computing technologies and management practices.
  • Knowledge of current operating systems and computer architecture with an emphasis on networked computing.
  • Knowledge of management and supervisory principles and practices.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the research and administrative functions of the area assigned.
  • Skill in planning for information resources and technology.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Skill in both verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in effectively managing, supervising, and evaluating assigned staff.
  • Ability to prioritize own time and the time of direct reports

Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) is committed to enrolling all qualified students at Arizona State University and assisting them in their academic success.
