Job Details

CFD Research Corporation is seeking a highly qualified Research Engineer to work in the Advanced Optics group. The candidate will help research and develop prototype imaging systems that use nanostructured optical materials. This level of design control requires creativity, technical knowledge, and an understanding of computational optimization techniques to overcome challenges in complex optical systems. Experience in computational imaging is a plus.

The candidate should have a strong technical background, as well as a desire to develop and commercialize innovative technologies. The Advanced Optics group works together as a team and a collaborative mindset is a must. A good candidate possesses strong people skills for customer discovery efforts and has the ability to clearly communicate technical ideas.

The position is based in Huntsville, AL, which was recently named second-best place to live in the United States by U.S. News & World Report (2023-2024).

Basic Qualifications:

u2022 PhD (or Master's degree with 2+ years of experience) in optics, physics, engineering, or computer science
u2022 Broad understanding of ray optics, diffractive optics, and image/signal processing
u2022 Strong applied mathematical skills including machine learning, statistics, inverse problems, neural networks, etc.
u2022 Experience designing, building, and characterizing prototype optical systems
u2022 Product development experience is desired
u2022 Excellent interpersonal and technical communication skills

Location: This role is based in the Huntsville, AL area, and is 100% onsite.
