Overview
We are looking for a Junior Systems Engineer with hands-on experience in IBM MQ and foundational knowledge of CICS. This role is ideal for someone early in their career who wants to grow their skills in enterprise middleware technologies while supporting mission-critical applications on IBM Z. The emphasis will be on IBM MQ, with opportunities to learn and contribute to CICS environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the setup, configuration, and administration of IBM MQ environments.
- Monitor and maintain MQ queues, channels, and logs to ensure reliable performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve MQ issues under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Assist with day-to-day CICS region support, including transaction monitoring and basic issue resolution.
- Document procedures and contribute to knowledge sharing across the team.
- Participate in system health checks, patching, and upgrade activities.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of IT experience with exposure to IBM MQ (required) and CICS (preferred).
- Strong understanding of MQ concepts such as queues, queue managers, and channels.
- Familiarity with z/OS environments; some knowledge of JCL or scripting (REXX, etc.) is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Nice to Have
- Experience with mainframe monitoring tools (e.g., OMEGAMON, Tivoli).
- Knowledge of batch scheduling systems (CA7, Control-M, etc.).
- Exposure to mainframe security (RACF, ACF2, Top Secret).
- IBM MQ or CICS coursework/certification.
