Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Center Facilities Infrastructure Specialist (DCFIS) to join our team in Tempe, AZ. This individual will serve as the onsite custodian for the data center, ensuring the physical and environmental health of critical infrastructure. The role combines hands-on technical responsibilities with administrative oversight, requiring both technical expertise and strong organizational skills.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in structured cabling, infrastructure management, and critical facilities environments, with the ability to work independently while coordinating across teams and vendors.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Cabling

  • Install, terminate, and test fiber/copper structured cabling systems.
  • Remove/mining of cables, patch cords, and related panels/connectors.
  • Perform non-intrusive and intrusive testing of cable links (copper & fiber).
  • Install, modify, or remove telecommunications infrastructure (racks, trays, wire management, grounding, bonding).
  • Conduct port and equipment audits, cable labeling, racking/un-racking hardware.

Operations & Administration

  • Work in ticketing systems to resolve issues, manage daily service requests, and maintain detailed documentation.
  • Maintain consistent and proactive communication with local staff and peers.
  • Manage consumables/spares inventory, shipping/receiving equipment, and secure storage checks.
  • Provide reporting on service impacts, infrastructure audits, and error inspections.

Vendor & Facilities Support

  • Escort and oversee third-party vendors ensuring compliance with data center protocols.
  • Verify vendors adherence to security and installation best practices.
  • Support moves, adds, and changes (MACs) for devices and hardware.
  • Liaise with facilities management to ensure power, HVAC, and mechanical systems meet redundancy and performance standards.
  • Schedule/supervise routine and emergency maintenance on critical systems (generators, UPS, electrical, HVAC, fire suppression, BMS).

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 7 years experience in a data center, NOC, or other critical infrastructure environment.
  • Strong understanding of fiber/copper cabling systems, telecom infrastructure, and documentation standards.
  • Familiarity with hardware components: networking, storage, security, carrier circuits.
  • Working knowledge of critical facilities systems (Electrical, HVAC, Mechanical, Controls).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite & Google Workspace (Excel, Outlook, Visio, Google Sheets, Docs, Chat).
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently while delegating when necessary.

Strong communication skills (written & verbal).
