The engineer needs to have direct experience with Precision Machine Parts, 5 to 8 axes

Role: Quality Engineer (Supplier Source / Inspection Focus)

  • Duration: 3 6 months (contract)
  • Environment: ITAR/EAR classified (defense components); no clearance required
  • Requirements / Skills:
    • Strong mechanical technical background
    • Supplier source inspection experience
    • Ability to read blueprints and GD&T
    • Experience with precision-machined parts
    • Familiarity with AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality standards

A machine shop supplier quality inspection engineer inspects supplier-provided parts, ensures they meet engineering and quality standards, and collaborates with suppliers to resolve defects, verify corrective actions, and prevent future issues. Key responsibilities include using precision tools to check dimensions and tolerances, reviewing technical drawings, performing audits, and analyzing production processes to guarantee product quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supplier Management: Manage the quality aspects of materials and services from external suppliers.
  • Incoming Inspection: Inspect incoming parts and materials to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards, using tools like calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Technical Review: Review engineering drawings, blueprints, and manufacturing specifications to understand quality requirements.
  • Problem-Solving: Investigate and determine the root cause of quality issues or defects reported by suppliers.
  • Corrective Action: Work with suppliers to implement effective corrective actions and put new test and inspection processes in place to prevent recurrence.
  • Supplier Audits: Conduct audits and oversee supplier manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with company and industry standards.
  • Process Improvement: Advise suppliers on quality improvement initiatives and collaborate to engineer quality into the design of products.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical Knowledge: Proficiency with precision measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, gauges) and the ability to interpret technical drawings.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze problems, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills for working with suppliers.
  • Machining Experience: Background or experience in machining and fabrication processes is often beneficial.
  • Project Management: Skills to document, plan, and execute quality improvement programs.
  • Continuous Improvement Mindset: A focus on learning, strategic prioritization, and challenging existing processes to achieve quality goals.
