Junior WordPress Web Developer

Berman and Company, a dynamic research, communications, advertising, and government affairs firm, seeks a Junior WordPress Web Developer to join our in-house web development team. We maintain 200+ websites on behalf of many high-profile clients and regularly launch new custom websites for campaigns and organizations.

The position will collaborate with creative and digital colleagues to complete web projects from initial concepting through development and quality assurance. This role is also responsible for ensuring all maintained websites are updated to ensure security and availability.

The developer will have a passion for modern, performant, and accessible web design as well as the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders on project requirements, progress, and deadlines. Responsibilities

• Collaborate with creative and client leads to plan new website builds

• Develop, test, and launch new WordPress websites using custom classic themes based on Berman s template which makes use of the WordPress block editor and ACF

• Maintain existing WordPress websites by updating plugins, making ad hoc adjustments to theme code, and performing proactive audits to identify potential issues

• Migrate and/or archive websites when necessary

• Integrate third-party services (CRMs, ESPs, tracking, etc.) into existing or new websites

• Serve as a technical resource for colleagues and clients

• Contribute to in-house processes and template code

Required Skills

• Demonstrated experience (2+ years) with the following:

• Building content-driven sites using WordPress with at least some block editor expertise and basic knowledge of ACF

• Implementing efficient and accessible markup, ideally using BEM syntax

• Producing custom CSS that showcases thorough understanding of layout approaches, unit options, and animation

• Writing vanilla JavaScript (sans jQuery) using features from the latest ECMAScript standards

• Working knowledge of git especially in collaborating with other developers

• Experience using generative AI to produce code or assets for website builds

• An eye for modern website design and layout

• Thorough attention to detail

Desired Skills

• Experience developing custom WordPress plugins leveraging object-oriented PHP

• Exposure to GSAP or similar animation framework for more extensive website animation

• Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL

• Experience configuring and maintaining a LAMP development environment

• Implementation of a CI/CD workflow using a build tool like ParcelJS or Vite

• Interest in or experience building SPAs using a framework like React or Vue
