DevOps Engineers automate software builds, test and deployment systems, and infrastructure as code. DevOps Engineers manage various development, test, staging, and demo environments (code deployment using Continuous Improvement (CI)/Continuous Delivery (CD) pipelines, backups, data refreshes), as well as deploy and manage software into Costco's production environment while leveraging as much automation as possible. They are responsible for continually advancing the technology in a collaborative and creative agile environment using many of the latest technologies and industry best practices and finding better and more efficient ways of delivering solutions that meet business objectives.

ROLE
  • Identifies, creates, and applies software development and security standards and practices.
  • Plans, designs, and documents software components.
  • Develops and operates end-to-end automated solutions for IT ops activities (including deployment, release management, monitoring, etc.)
  • Collaborates with software engineering, quality engineering, and other functions to develop solutions that are predisposed to scalability and simplified maintenance.
  • Configures and maintains on-premises and Azure cloud infrastructure to ensure availability, performance, scalability and security of development, testing and production environments, relying on automated scripts and configuration management tools.
  • Creates and manages Infrastructure as Code (IaC) leveraging Terraform (Enterprise or Cloud).
  • Maintains, extends, and builds automated CI and CD pipelines.
  • Handles the deployment, administration, maintenance, automation, and operation of production, staging, testing, and development environments.
  • Configures, automates, and supports test data management.
  • Works closely with product and application teams to create version control branching strategy.
  • Works cross-value streams with other DevOps Engineers to avoid and resolve merge conflicts.
  • Demonstrates expertise in the deployment of integrated or standalone releases across multiple interconnected and dispersed applications.
  • Uses industry standard tools to improve and speed up delivery of our products and services.
  • Provides fast and thoughtful issue resolution by executing quick fixes or proactively identifying and solving problems related to builds in production environments.
  • Creates the pipeline to periodically generate code quality metrics.
  • Drives each team to be self-sufficient by providing tools and training and brings different teams together to work towards common goals.
  • Develops tool integrations that allow for end-to-end traceability for application development (from requirements to code objects changed to meet the requirements).
  • Supports and improves our tools for continuous integration, streamlines our operations, processes, and release management.
  • Takes initiative by staying up to date with tools and technologies to increase efficiency and reliability of CI/CD, as well as being involved with their administration and maintenance.
  • Participates in meetings as required adding value as a subject matter expert.
  • Provides training and documentation to others as needed or required.
  • Serves as an escalation resource.
  • Provides 24/7 On-Call support as part of a scheduled rotation with other team members.

REQUIRED
  • Minimum 8 years' experience working in a public cloud environment (Azure or Google Cloud Platform preferred).
  • Working knowledge of a major relational database (SQL Server preferred) and NoSQL database (Cosmos preferred).
  • Strong experience working in CI/CD pipelines, and designing and delivering DevSecOps automation for app deployment and testing.
  • Strong experience in GitAction, GitFlow, Azure DevOps pipeline.
  • Experience remediating vulnerabilities reported by Wiz/GHAS.
  • Experience provisioning and managing Azure cloud services with subscriptions, policy management, resource groups, networking, VNets, private endpoints, Azure Active Directory, Azure RBAC, Azure IaaS, and Azure PaaS.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform services including Compute Engine, GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine), Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, Cloud Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, and networking components (VPC, Cloud Load Balancing).
  • Experience with Terraform (Enterprise/Cloud) and Google Cloud Deployment Manager.
  • Experience building Docker applications for containerization and deployment on a Kubernetes platform.
  • Experience using configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and experience working with web technologies.
  • Experience describing the solutions and generating the architecture (logical, physical) artifacts.
  • Experience in SQL programming.
  • Experience with version control (GIThub preferred).
  • Possesses a strong understanding of the software development Life Cycle.
  • Experience developing within the Agile methodology.
  • Working knowledge of REST, Web Services, SOAP, JSON and XML technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented concepts.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate to both technical and business audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute against iteration plans and deliver assignments within scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Ability to work with all management levels.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to multitask and prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Detail-oriented and possesses strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze potential future issues.
  • Possesses high integrity, accountability, a positive attitude, and be willing to do what it takes to make the team successful.
  • Extremely responsive, able to work under pressure in crisis with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Responsible, conscientious, organized, self-motivated, and able to work with limited supervision.
  • Scheduling flexibility to meet the needs of the business, including weekends, holidays, and 24/7 on call responsibilities on a rotational basis.
Recommended
  • 5 years' experience deploying enterprise Azure and/or Google cloud technologies.
  • 8 years' experience with enterprise infrastructure and software systems.
  • Microsoft Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform certification(s) preferred.
  • Ability to automate software defined networking.
  • Experience with performance tuning, application monitoring, and high availability and scalable infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with software-defined networking and storage, IP networking, VPNs, DNS, load balancers, and firewalls.
  • University degree or equivalent education (Computer Science or related field).
  • Knowledge of software design patterns.
  • Proven practical experience operating in a scalable, high volume and high availability production environment.
  • Prior experience with performance analysis and optimization of web services, software, and SQL/NoSQL databases.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.

Level 1 - $85,000 - $115,000

Level 2 - $105,000 - $135,000

Level 3 - $130,000 - $160,000

Level SR - $150,000 - $190,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible

Level Staff - $180,000 - $225,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible
