Job Summary

As a Summer Intern at Black & Veatch in Cary, NC., you will play a meaningful role in addressing some of the world's most critical infrastructure challenges. This internship offers the opportunity to contribute to diverse, impactful projects that support our clients' goals while fostering your professional growth and advancing the success of Black & Veatch.

Key Responsibilities

To demonstrate leadership and adaptability, with the willingness to take ownership of tasks or projects

Develop project plans with the intention of delivering requires such as resources, timing/milestones, and risks

The ability to achieve goals and success across functionalities

Drive to overcome the most challenging obstacles and look for ways to improve results

Collaborate on projects that utilize generative AI to enhance the capabilities of data-driven reporting and development of AI products.

Learning Opportunities:

Contribute to Monthly Code Quality and Security Reviews
  • Participate in code scanning and vulnerability assessments using tools like Snyk, integrated into Bitbucket Pipelines, as part of BV's secure SDLC practices

Support Incident Resolution and Bug Tracking
  • Assist in triaging and resolving software defects and feature requests using JIRA and ServiceNow, with exposure to BV's control tower process for cloud-native applications

Collaborate on DevOps Automation and CI/CD Pipelines
  • Work with teams to build and maintain YAML-based pipelines in Bitbucket

Contribute to Engineering Standards and Documentation
  • Help standardize development practices and documentation across teams, addressing gaps in traceability, testing, and release coordination. Participate in peer reviews and knowledge-sharing initiatives

Support Generative AI Initiatives in Software Engineering
  • Collaborate on projects that apply Generative AI to enhance code generation, documentation, and developer productivity.

Preferred Qualifications

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Analytics or a related major
Effective communication and interpersonal skills (both written and verbal).
Experience in accessing and analyzing data, preferably through the use of SQL.
Ability to identify, analyze, and interpret patterns in data and produce relevant visualization.
Knowledge and practical use of Python or other scripting languages for data analysis.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills and the desire to learn.

Minimum Qualifications

Current enrollment in Information Technology or related degree program. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

This internship position is expected to be in the office on a full-time basis.
