Overview

The Business Data Steward is responsible for ensuring that the data within their purview, including the Business Unit (BU) data asset inventory, data consumed, data produced, and data being shared is inventoried, well-managed and fit for intended use in accordance with Enterprise Data Governance (EDG) Instruction, standards, and procedures. Drives the operationalization of data governance across their business unit and is empowered to make decisions on behalf of the Business Data Owner.

Responsibilities
  • Drive the operationalization of data governance within their purview
  • Inform and execute BU data governance plan for data within their purview
  • Define and monitor performance metrics to demonstrate execution of BU data governance goals and associated plans, determine gaps and recommend / implement changes to improve operations related to data governance and risk mitigation in accordance with EDG framework
  • Function as a point of contact and support, facilitate, or coordinate resolution with respective business area data teams for all data related questions and issues pertaining to respective data asset(s)
  • Establish and implement data governance controls in coordination with BU Risk Officer to ensure business area data governance risk is well-managed
  • Work with BU Managing Data Steward and Technical Data Stewards to resolve data governance issues and deploy data governance solutions
  • May serve as a liaison, as necessary, with Managing Data Steward, EDG Office and Business Data Stewards in other Business Areas to ensure consistency of data governance operationalization across all Business Areas
  • Coordinate with BU Risk Officer to perform BU data governance control validation
  • Define and monitor performance metrics to demonstrate execution of BU data governance goals and associated plans, determine gaps and recommend/implement changes to improve operations related to data governance and risk mitigation in accordance with EDG framework
  • Complete EDG training related to effective performance of data governance responsibilities.
  • Support, facilitate, and coordinate with respective business area data teams to identify downstream consumers / uses of data, and act as point of contact to answer questions and address issues related to the data within their Business Area
  • On behalf of Data Owner and in alignment with Data Handling requirements, approve transfers of the data within their purview
  • On behalf of Data Owner, manage procedures and controls for accessing, classifying, and protecting data within their purview in accordance with policies, standards, and procedures
  • Provide and approve definitions, allowable values, and calculation/derivation logic for data attributes
  • Ensure business data is identified and inventoried with complete, accurate, and quality metadata
  • Partner with Information Security and Technical Data Stewards, offering resolution services to assist when unprotected data is discovered on Navy Federal networks or endpoints
  • Work directly with the Technical Data Steward to perform root cause analysis & resolve issues - act as point of resolution prior to Data Owner, EDG&P, and EDinvolvement
  • Proactive individual contributor and mentor to junior staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Advanced understanding of business line/competitive environment
  • Strong change agent; effective communicator
  • Must have data governance experience and technical data knowledge, and ability to handle Technical Data Steward responsibilities when none is assigned for respective data domains
  • Experience with system administration
  • Proven ability to make informed decisions on behalf of Business Data Owners
  • Possess a familiarity with data management and governance roles, principles, processes, and procedures

Desired Qualification(s)
  • Knowledge and experience in Banking/Finance/Investments, familiar with terminology, concepts and business processes and systems

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30AM - 5:00PM
