Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer Role Overview

This is a senior-level, hands-on technical position responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining IT infrastructure across data centers, cloud platforms, and remote locations. The role combines deep technical expertise with leadership in project execution, troubleshooting, and collaboration with development and operations teams.
Infrastructure Deployment & Support
  • Install and configure servers, storage systems, network devices, and power/cooling equipment.
  • Manage cabling, patch panels, and physical layout in data centers and network closets.
  • Ensure high availability, physical security, and environmental monitoring.
System & Network Troubleshooting
  • Provide support for endpoints (PCs, Macs, tablets), peripherals, and network hardware.
  • Resolve issues related to hardware, operating systems, virtualization, and networking.
  • Analyze logs, monitor performance, and validate network configurations (e.g., routing, DNS, DHCP).
DevOps & Application Support
  • Set up and maintain development, testing, and production environments.
  • Collaborate with DevOps teams to improve CI/CD pipelines and container orchestration.
  • Use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools to automate deployments and configurations.
Project Leadership
  • Lead infrastructure refreshes, wireless deployments, and other technical projects.
  • Coordinate timelines, manage risks, and serve as a technical liaison to stakeholders.
Documentation & Process Improvement
  • Maintain technical documentation including runbooks, diagrams, and SOPs.
  • Identify process gaps and implement best practices to improve infrastructure reliability and efficiency.
Experience
  • 10+ years in IT infrastructure roles, including 5+ years in enterprise data center environments.
  • Experience leading large-scale migrations and supporting distributed systems.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% for site visits and team collaboration.
Technical Skills
  • Data Center Operations: Rack/stack, cabling, power systems, high-availability design.
  • Virtualization & Cloud: VMware, AWS, Azure, hybrid cloud platforms.
  • Storage: Enterprise storage systems, snapshots, replication, analytics tools.
  • Networking: Routing protocols, firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, IP management.
  • Monitoring & Automation: Tools like Splunk, Dynatrace, PowerShell, Python, Ansible, Terraform.
  • Platforms: Windows Server, macOS, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, various databases.
Preferred Certifications
  • VMware, Cisco, storage vendor certifications.
  • Data center and security credentials.
Reporting & Metrics
  • Provide regular dashboards summarizing operational activities, incidents, and resolutions.
  • Track infrastructure performance, capacity trends, and project milestones.
  • Align infrastructure initiatives with broader business goals.
