Definition
Under general direction, performs specialized professional and technical duties for the County-wide enterprise SAP system for the Auditor/Controller/Treasurer Tax Collector's SAP Division. Coordinates with County departments to refine and translate functional requirements (e.g., finance, logistics, and human resources) into process improvements, technical specifications, conduct complex analyses, develop customized reports and queries, and test and implement processes and upgrades. Performs related duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the journey level of the series. Incumbents analyze and configure complex departmental business processes and SAP system modules in areas such as finance, logistics, and human resources as it applies to departmental business processes and user needs specific to SAP systems; and identify and resolve independently all but the most complex problems within the system.

The SAP Functional Analyst series is distinguished from the Business Systems Analyst series in that the focus is on SAP business functions. It is further distinguished from the SAP Team Leader by the latter's supervisory responsibility for a section of the SAP Financial Team Division.

Examples of Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Acts as a liaison with County departments; analyzes business needs and problems; formulates SAP technology solutions.
Reviews and evaluates existing and proposed systems, solutions, and business processes and develops or modifies processes and procedures for solving business problems.
Assists departments by identifying, defining, and analyzing accounting and financial problems; answering questions regarding accounting concepts, systems, cost accounting and legal interpretations relating to fiscal matters.
Determines cause of application and system problems; develops, recommends and implements solutions.
Develops and recommends plans and proposals for a variety of departmental accounting systems; confers with management regarding findings; prepares procedures for and instructs departments in implementation of new of modified systems.
Evaluates the feasibility and coordinates the conversion of existing systems and procedures to SAP; analyzes accounting features of software packages for appropriateness for individual departments; documents accounting systems by flow charts and narrative descriptions.
Reviews and interprets legislation, state and federal regulations, contracts and grants, government accounting standards and other guidelines as appropriate.
Makes customer specific changes to SAP software.
Works with and configures SAP modules.
Develops and conducts end-user training of business functions of the SAP software.
Develops tests for SAP modules, test case scenarios, configures and tests software fixes, enhancements, and upgrades.
