Description
SAIC is searching for a Senior level System Administrator who performs high-level, day-to-day operational maintenance, support, and upgrades for complex operating systems, server hardware to join our VA team. Develops solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained. This is a 100% Remote role.
Responsibilities:
Coordinates, directs and performs complex software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages
Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT procedures
Continually monitors and tunes multiple systems to achieve optimum performance levels
Ensures data/media recoverability by developing and implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations
Plans and implements the modernization of servers.
Develops, implements and promotes standard operating procedures and schedules.
Conducts hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
Develops and implements new standards, policies and procedures.
Works closely with Network and Systems Analysts to help determine and develop the systems that will be implemented.
Qualifications
Education Required:
Bachelors and two (2) years or more experience with a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
Advanced AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer) are preferred.
5 years of experience in system administration, with a focus on cloud infrastructure is preferred.
Experience Required:
Proven track record of managing and maintaining complex AWS environments
Hands-on experience with both Windows and Linux/Unix operating systems.
Strong proficiency in AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, Lambda, IAM, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, and Networking.
Experience with AWS security practices and services (e.g., AWS IAM, AWS WAF).
Experience designing, deploying, and managing scalable and secure AWS cloud infrastructure.
Proficient in setting up and managing AWS networking components (VPCs, subnets, security groups, NACLs).
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automating AWS tasks.
Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools like AWS CloudFormation or AWS CDK.
Experience with AWS monitoring and logging tools (e.g., CloudWatch, CloudTrail, AWS Config).
Ability to troubleshoot and optimize AWS instances and services for performance.
Knowledge of AWS security best practices and compliance frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2).
Implementation of encryption, key management, and data protection mechanisms within AWS.
Experience with AWS database services (e.g., Amazon RDS, DynamoDB, Aurora).
Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., AWS CodeBuild, AWS CodeDeploy, AWS CodePipeline) and practices.
Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes, ECS, EKS).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex cloud-related issues.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
Strong attention to detail to ensure system stability, security, and data integrity.
Capability to mentor and provide technical guidance to junior administrators and IT staff.
Ability to lead technical projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Willingness to be on-call for emergency support and maintenance when required.
Strong documentation skills for creating and maintaining system configurations, processes, and procedures.
