Job Title: Mainframe Support Engineer
Location Lake Mary, FL or Pittsburgh, PA
Job Description:-
As a Mainframe Support Engineer on our Data Processing Services team, you will be the primary point of contact for the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and support of the critical mainframe environment. You ll ensure system availability, troubleshoot incidents, and collaborate with development, operations, and business teams to maintain the smooth operation of batch and transactional processes.
Responsibilities
- Monitor daily batch schedules using Control-M and resolve scheduling failures
- Triage and resolve production incidents in z/OS, CICS, and DB2 environments
- Use tools such as SDSF to analyze system performance and capacity
- Manage change deployment via Git
- Execute JCL, perform dataset and tape management, and apply OS/Subsystem maintenance
- Maintain and update run-books, Standard Operating Procedures and support documentation
- Liaise with application teams to diagnose defects, implement workarounds, and coordinate fixes
- Participate in on-call rotation to provide 247 support, including weekend and holiday coverage
- Conduct root-cause analysis and drive continuous improvements to reduce incident repeatability
- Collaborate with security, audit and compliance teams to enforce policies and complete health checks
- Mentor junior support staff and contribute to knowledge-sharing sessions
Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent
- 3+ years of hands-on experience supporting mainframe platforms (z/OS)
Proficiency with:
JCL, TSO/ISPF, REXX or CLIST scripting
COBOL, DB2 Stored Procedure
CICS support fundamentals
DB2 data management
SDSF for monitoring and diagnostics
Experience with Git
Strong troubleshooting skills and comfort working under pressure
Excellent verbal and written communication; able to clearly document technical procedures
Willingness to participate in a 247 on-call support rota
Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and support data-informed task execution.
Familiarity with AI-enhanced platforms is a plus.
A solid understanding of AI capabilities and limitations including ethical considerations is expected
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with automation and DevOps practices on z/OS (Ansible, etc.)
Familiarity with mainframe modernization or integration technologies (e.g., MQ, Java on z/OS)
Prior exposure to ITIL incident, problem and change management processes
Financial-services industry experience
Educational Qualifications:
- Required - Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or closely related or equivalent.
- Preferred - Master s degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science, Big Data or Analytics or equivalent.
Travel:
- Open to travel based up on the nature of the engagement.
