The Process & Controls Engineer supports the Clean Combustion Parts and Services business by developing control system solutions for utility and industrial boiler applications. This role contributes across both tender development and contract execution, applying control theory, system modeling, and engineering best practices to deliver safe, reliable, and optimized control solutions. The position plays a key role in ensuring technical accuracy, compliance, and successful project delivery while working cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and commercial teams.
Key Responsibilities
Identify, develop, evaluate, and implement control system solutions to meet product and customer requirements.
Apply control theory and mathematical modeling to design systems that achieve desired operability, safety, and performance outcomes.
Develop and maintain control logic, control-related software, hardware configurations, sensors, and feedback systems.
Support cycle optimization, boundary definition, and system performance improvement initiatives.
Work autonomously on complex engineering tasks and technical problem-solving efforts.
Develop engineering hour estimates, schedules, and material lists for tenders and cost estimates.
Participate in tender development and lead technical execution during contract delivery.
Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, policies, and procedures.
Prepare and review technical documentation and participate in technical and program reviews.
Collaborate across engineering, operations, and other functional teams to deliver integrated solutions.
Act as a technical resource for less experienced engineers and provide guidance as needed.
Lead small, low-risk projects when required.
Support limited domestic travel to customer sites (less than 5%).
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in process controls, industrial automation, or control systems engineering.
Experience supporting industrial or utility-scale combustion or boiler systems is preferred.
Special Requirements
Ability to travel domestically on an occasional basis (less than 5%).
Must be able to support both tender development and contract execution activities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong understanding of control theory, system modeling, and control system architecture.
Working knowledge of Burner Management Systems (BMS) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
Familiarity with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes and standards.
Ability to design, evaluate, and document control system solutions.
Experience developing estimates, schedules, and material requirements.
Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in preparing clear, accurate technical documentation.
Ability to integrate control solutions across multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
Additional Desired Characteristics
Experience working in clean combustion, power generation, or industrial boiler environments.
Exposure to customer-facing engineering roles or tender development.
Prior experience participating in or leading technical reviews.
Familiarity with project execution processes and lifecycle management.
Work Environment
Office-based engineering role with collaboration across cross-functional teams.
Occasional travel to regional customer sites.
Standard business hours with flexibility based on project needs.
