Position: Dean of Student Financial Assistance and Scholarships
Location : Multiple Campuses
JOB SUMMARY:
  • The Dean of Student Financial Assistance and Scholarships serves as a strategic leader within the Division of Student Affairs, overseeing a comprehensive and multifaceted financial aid program that includes grants, loans, scholarships, Rhode Island Promise, and student employment initiatives. This role requires a strong commitment to equity, compliance, and student success. The Dean ensures effective policy development, program evaluation, and fiscal management, and fosters a culture of trust and accountability.
  • The Dean is responsible for policy creation and implementation, budget planning, staff supervision, and cross-departmental collaboration. This position supports the institution s mission to expand access to postsecondary education and close equity gaps among underserved student populations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Embrace and promote the mission of a comprehensive community college.
  • Collaborate in a diverse, inclusive, and student-centered environment with students from varying backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Identify and remove barriers to student access, retention, and success.
  • Partner with internal departments to design initiatives that close equity gaps.
Position-Specific Knowledge:
  • Maintain expert-level knowledge of federal, state, institutional, and private regulations and policies.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and keep staff informed.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of financial aid, scholarship, and student employment policies.
  • Prepare and submit reports for institutional planning, audits, and compliance with state/federal funding agencies.
  • Oversee verification and awarding processes, and ensure the appropriate distribution of financial aid.
  • Serve as liaison during audits and lead the preparation of audit documentation.
Management and Leadership:
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Financial Aid Office staff across all CCRI campuses.
  • Foster professional development and team growth.
  • Oversee daily operations and service delivery across campuses.
  • Build cross-departmental partnerships to optimize student service delivery.
Student Service:
  • Champion a student-first philosophy through leadership and example.
  • Maximize student access to available resources, including Foundation scholarships.
Community and Professional Engagement:
  • Participate in local, regional, and national professional associations.
  • Represent the department in campus-wide committees and external stakeholder engagements.
Technical Knowledge and Expertise:
  • Oversee the effective use of Banner (Ellucian) and related technologies to administer financial aid programs.
  • Lead initiatives to streamline and improve financial aid processes for efficiency and student satisfaction.
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:
  • Standard office equipment and specialized financial aid software, including Banner and other administrative systems.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master s degree required.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive full-time experience in the administration of student financial aid services.
  • Supervisory experience in a multi-campus or community college setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal student aid regulations, financial need analysis, and compliance procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience with Banner (Ellucian) and completion of federal/state reporting requirements (e.g., FISAP).
  • Prior experience with audits and program reviews.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Full-time experience at or above the Director level in financial aid administration.
  • Experience working within a collective bargaining environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on diplomacy and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student-centered service and equitable access to higher education.
  • Proven leadership in public relations and community engagement.
  • Experience with implementing or enhancing student information systems and financial aid process optimization.
Compensation
Compensation for roles at Beacon Systems Inc depending on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by applicable law, BeaconGov provides reasonable range of compensation for this role.
