About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Jira Administrator to join our team and take ownership of the administration, configuration, and optimization of our Atlassian tool-stack (primarily Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Confluence). In this role, you will work closely with development, QA, product, operations and IT teams to define and implement best practices, streamline workflows, enforce governance, and enable efficient agile delivery across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Administer and maintain the Atlassian product suite: Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence including configuring workflows, screens, fields, permission schemes, notification schemes and automation rules.
Design, build and optimize custom workflows, issue types, boards/dashboards, filters (JQL) and reporting to support agile, DevOps and ITSM teams.
Manage user access, groups, permissions and licensing; enforce governance, security, data integrity and audit compliance.
Serve as the primary point of contact for Atlassian tool support (Level 2/3), handle escalations, troubleshoot performance and configuration issues, liaise with vendors or Atlassian Support as needed.
Facilitate onboarding of new teams/projects into the Jira ecosystem: define templates, project schemes, training materials and best-practice guidelines.
Integrate Jira/Confluence with other tools and systems (e.g., CI/CD, Git, ServiceNow, Slack) and drive automation to improve process efficiency.
Monitor system health, usage metrics, licensing and application performance; recommend upgrades, plugin evaluations or optimizations.
Develop and maintain technical and user-facing documentation: standard operating procedures (SOPs), admin guides, training material, FAQ and knowledge base articles.
Actively collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs, translate those into tool configurations and continuously improve processes around agile, Kanban or hybrid methods.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 5 years of experience administering the Atlassian tool-stack (Jira/Confluence/JSM) in a medium-to-large enterprise environment.
Deep experience with Jira configuration: workflows (conditions, validators, post-functions), screens/schemes, custom fields, JQL, dashboards and automation.
Proven track record of integrating Atlassian tools with other systems and tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, collaboration tools, service management platforms).
Solid knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) and the ability to translate agile/DevOps processes into tool configurations.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills able to interact with technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple requests.
Familiarity with Atlassian Cloud vs. Data Center / Server models, governance frameworks, licensing, security and upgrade/migration activities.
Desired / Preferred Skills
Atlassian certifications (e.g., ACP-120 Jira Administration for Cloud) or equivalent training.
Scripting or automation experience (e.g., Groovy with ScriptRunner, REST API, PowerShell/Python).
Experience working in multi-instance or hub-and-spoke Atlassian deployment models.
Exposure to additional Atlassian tools/plugins (e.g., Tempo Timesheets, Zephyr, Insight, Jira Align).
Experience with ITSM frameworks (ITIL), enterprise tool governance, data migration/migration from Server to Cloud.
Ability to deliver training sessions, create adoption plans and drive user engagement and best-practice usage.
