Z/OS Mainframe Systems Programmer w/ISPW

  • Length: 12 months.
  • 100% Remote / WORK FROM HOME
  • Client :Leader in Mainframe System Support/ upgrade and transformation. A Large Managed IT Services firm.
  • Start Date: ASAP

Notes -

The focus is on an ISPW upgrade from an administrative perspective. BMC will be doing the upgrade but our client needs someone to understand the Customer s ISPW environment and make sure that the configuration matches what they have on the old version of ISPW. The other activity will be helping the client with a Cobol 6.2 upgrade from the perspective of an ISPW admin.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The Mainframe Systems Programmer provides support for on-going projects that require the installation, testing, and implementation of new operating systems and other system software. Also, the Maintenance and debugging of systems software. Research and evaluation of new software and hardware products, assisting team members and other areas with technical questions and problem resolution. Monitoring and tuning of systems software. Functional knowledge, use of z/OS components and detailed knowledge of support products such as tape management, scheduling, security, monitoring systems, etc.

 

Key Areas of Focus for this Role

  • Low complexity assignments provide oversight/review.
  • Understands how whole picture aligns to overall client's strategy.
  • Works directly with Hardware and Software vendors on new solutions
  • Reviews and analyze current client software and requirements to determine the most cost-effective and standard software solution to be included in the business proposal
  • Provide and document problem analysis, resolution, and prevention, designing procedures and best practice techniques.

 

z/OS & Tools your main tasks are related to:

  • Incident change and problem handling.
  • Configuration and customization.
  • Setting up parameters
  • Communication with vendors.
  • Participation / Contribution to technical projects.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of z/OS and related product software z/OS.
  • PARMLIB configuration and JES2 customization.
  • Ability to support in solving problems and implementing changes on z/OS environments.
  • In depth- knowledge of TSO/ISPF, SDSF, JCL.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to take the lead in problem solving and coordination of multi-disciplinary groups.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of z/OS.
  • Advanced knowledge of TSO/ISPF, SDSF, JCL.
  • Advanced knowledge of BMC s ISPW software.
  • Ability and experience to build out new environments within an ISPW installation.
  • Experience with maintaining an ISPW installation i.e. backups, restores, audit reporting, logging.
  • Experience administering internal security within ISPW.
  • Experience resolving ISPW code promotion failures.
  • Ability to work well as a team member.
  • Stress resistant in case of Major Incident- and/or emergency situations.
  • Very good communication abilities.
  • Ability to deal with multi-task issues.
  • Methodical and disciplined approach to work.
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Knowledgeable in z/OS security.
