Role description:
Arcadis is seeking an Architectural Historian to join our growing Cultural Resources group in Atlanta, GA. Our team is known for innovation and outstanding client service and will continue to build on these values. For this position, you will apply your knowledge and experience on transportation and infrastructure projects and will be responsible for preparation of environmental documents in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. This position can be remote (work from home) as long as you are located in the state of Georgia to perform necessary field work.

Role description:

For this position, you will apply your knowledge and experience on transportation and infrastructure projects and will be responsible for preparation of environmental documents in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. This position can be remote (work from home) as long as you are located in the state of Georgia to perform necessary field work.
Role accountabilities:
- Support the multi-discipline Atlanta Mobility Environmental Group
- Conduct historic resource field surveys (day trips and some overnight trips)
- Conduct background research on historic resources using a variety of primary and secondary sources
- Evaluate historic resources for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the Georgia Environmental Policy Act (GEPA), and other relevant laws and regulations
- Assess project-related effects to historic resources, including working with engineering professionals and overall project team to avoid or minimize impacts in accordance with Section 106 and/or GEPA
- Prepare technical reports for distribution to state and federal agencies, including creating project and resource maps in ArcGIS
- Maintain internal and external delivery schedules for all assigned projects, prioritized by project baseline schedule dates
- Provide project status updates at meetings and serve as the point of contact for historic resources
- Projects will generally be in Georgia but could also be outside of the state, as needed
- Adherence to Arcadis' practices including quality and safety standards.
- Interpersonal and client facing responsibilities will include excellent, clear and concise, oral and written communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to coordinate meetings, resources, and presentations.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in History, Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or a closely related field
- 4+ years of professional Architectural Historian experience, including conducting historic resource surveys and background research, applying NRHP eligibility criteria and aspects of integrity to historic resources, and demonstrated technical writing abilities
- Candidate must have valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company policy
Key Attributes:
- Meets the Secretary of the Interior's Qualification Standards 36 CFR 61 as an Architectural Historian or Historian,
- Must work well in a collaborative environment
- Knowledge and understanding of Section 106 of the NHPA
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- General understanding of the following industries is required: transportation (highways and rail), state and local governments, and/or regulatory/compliance, including
- Familiarity with reading transportation engineering plans
- Must have attention to detail
- Position may require use of company vehicle
Preferred Qualifications:
- Related experience preparing HABS/HAER/HALS documentation
- Working knowledge and experience applying Statewide Historic Contexts for Georgia (i.e. Georgia's Living Places, Tilling the Earth, The Ranch House in Georgia, etc.) to historic resource evaluations
- Experience with Section 4(f) of the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) Act
- Working knowledge and experience with Georgia Department of Transportation including Project Plan Development, Environmental Guidebooks, and Cultural Resource Manual
- Related experience for other departments of transportation
- Proficiency with ArcPro
- Experience writing historical contexts
- Experience developing and implementing mitigation measures
