RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in Brooklyn, NY that is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their team on a critical, high-impact project. We are seeking someone with deep Linux expertise to lead a fleet-wide operating system upgrade. This role offers the opportunity to make a lasting architectural contribution, ensuring the stability and performance of a large-scale production environment. The Senior Software Engineer will work closely with senior engineers across platform teams, but most of your work will be independent and highly technical. Key Responsibilities:
* OS Package Development: Port, update, and package in-house and third-party software for compatibility with the latest Ubuntu LTS release
* Testing & QA: Design and execute functional and compatibility tests for all new OS packages
* Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex packaging and integration issues, including system-level failures
* CI/CD Integration: Modify existing build and release pipelines to support new OS packages without disrupting production
* Collaboration: Work with SRE and platform teams to integrate configuration management changes and resolve dependencies
REQUIREMENTS:
* Linux Expertise: 7+ years working with Linux systems (Ubuntu/Debian preferred)
* OS Packaging: Hands-on experience creating and troubleshooting .deb or .rpm packages
* Polyglot Packaging: Experience packaging PHP libraries/extensions and Golang applications
* CI/CD: Strong knowledge of CI/CD frameworks and ability to modify pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
* Advanced Troubleshooting: Proven ability to resolve complex system-level issues
Nice-to-Have:
* Advanced PHP
* Chef or similar configuration management tools
* Go programming experience
* Linux virtual machines and Makefile knowledge
* Familiarity with monitoring tools like Prometheus and Grafana
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
