Role: Data Modeler

Location: Cerritos, CA

Overview:
Data Modeler to support enterprise data initiatives for a leading U.S. healthcare payer, with a strong emphasis on Medicare Advantage (MA) and core payer operations. The role involves designing and optimizing data models that ensure accuracy, performance, and scalability across mission-critical systems such as enrollment, claims, provider, utilization management, and member management platforms.
The ideal candidate will have strong data modeling expertise, experience with cloud-based architectures, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into high-quality technical solutions supporting analytics, regulatory reporting, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain logical and physical data models for enterprise applications.

Collaborate with business analysts, architects, and developers to translate business requirements into scalable data structures.

Ensure data integrity, normalization, and optimization for performance, reliability, and scalability.

Work closely with ETL developers and data engineers to implement models in data warehouses, data lakes, and operational systems.

Document data models, relationships, business rules, and metadata in alignment with enterprise architecture and compliance standards.

Participate in data governance initiatives and ensure adherence to security, privacy, and compliance requirements (especially for PHI/PII).

Conduct data profiling, assess source system quality, identify issues, and define data quality (DQ) rules and transformation logic.

Required Skills

5+ years of experience in data modeling, data architecture, or database design.
Strong expertise in tools such as ERwin, PowerDesigner, or equivalent.
Proficiency with SQL-based databases (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, normalization, and relational structures.
Familiarity with Azure Cloud and modern architectures such as Data Lakes and Enterprise Data Hubs (EDH).
Ability to interpret business requirements and convert them into actionable technical data model designs.
Understanding of API integration and data exchange formats (JSON, XML).
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with healthcare payer data domains (claims, provider, member data).
Exposure to data governance frameworks and Master Data Management (MDM) solutions.
Skills in performance tuning, query optimization, and designing high-performance data structures.
