About the Position

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is seeking an individual who is excited about emerging computer-aided design and engineering software technologies that encompass 3D design, reality modeling, animation, and visualization. The future of civil engineering and transportation technologies is rapidly evolving as a result of innovations with autonomous vehicles and infrastructure, as well as the industry's move to OpenRoads Designer and OpenBridge Designer software. Our desire to meet these emerging challenges requires a passionate and dedicated team member who would be integral to our organization's goal to be an industry leader in implementing these technologies.

We Require
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field; Or
  • Four years of computer-aided design and drafting work experience, or four years of professional pre-registration civil engineering experience
  • An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum degree qualification on a year-for-year basis

We Also Value
  • Five years of CADD work experience
  • Experience using MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and OpenBridge software
  • Experience using Bluebeam software
  • Experience with OpenRoads Designer, Subsurface Utility Design, and analysis
  • Experience working with reality modeling software applications
  • Experience conducting CADD training classes and/or creating training documentation

Job Contributions
  • Act as a technical resource in the use of CADD technology, providing both technical support and training to CADD users
  • Develop, enhance, and expand CADD technology, education, and implementation within MCDOT through researching, creating, and testing technical configurations and software functionality
  • Troubleshoot, research, and provide solutions to problems with various CADD-related software and hardware
  • Collaborate with MCDOT Engineers to produce engineering drawings, base files, exhibits, charts, maps, and visual aids for transportation projects using CADD technology
  • Assist CADD Manager in developing and updating MCDOT's CADD standards and standard operating procedures
  • Draw and modify MCDOT Standard Engineering Details and Sample Sheets
  • Produces 3D reality models of transportation projects using CADD technology
  • Maintains CADD equipment and drawing files
  • Attend CADD networking sessions and meet with technical experts in civil engineering to remain current on "state-of-the-art" developments in both hardware and software
  • Other job duties as assigned

Working Conditions
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time with occasional walking or standing for longer periods of time
  • The position is typically located in an office environment. Occasional field work may be required. Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures (hot or cold), wind, rain, traffic hazards, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration

Machines, tools, equipment, software, and hardware
  • Computer workstation, CAD Software, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, large format printers, plotters, and scanners

Protective equipment required
  • Hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes
